I'm sitting here counting the hours until I can snag the new Rush album from iTunes tonight. I've loved the three tracks that they've released from the album already so I have high expectations.

I tried to get through the whole thing last night, but I just wasn't ready to get that first impression quite yet.

First impression is a good one, though with a Rush album it takes multiple listens to get the full effect. Seemed to me the middle of the album wasn't as engaging as the rest, but that could easily change.

On a side note I went back to Snakes and Arrows for a listen and remembered just how much I loved that album.

Two lesser tracks (Carnies, Seven Cities of Gold). The rest is just the best Rush has been in more than 20 years! The Garden is a wonderful song, this had to be mentioned.
I wrote a review in French, if anyone's interested in reading it, let me know.

I don't know any French, otherwise, I would've liked to read it.

Sounds a hell of a lot better in High Def, but I still can't believe Rush of all bands is recorded shit in hotel rooms, on laptops and e-mailed what were likely MP3 tracks to the producer. It's got MP3 artifacts on it, for sure.

In other Rush news Presto, Roll The Bones, and everything from Moving Pictures to Hold Your Fire are 44.1 digital recordings, except for Signals (which was mixed digitally, so same thing).

So there will never be better copies than the CD versions in case you felt like buying the HD Tracks bundles. They are just padded with no harmonic info past 22Khz that was on the original albums. They might be better than 16-bits, but IMO that doesn't matter when the headroom is not extremely high, which is very atypical of music with any type of near constant distortion (that use amps).
