Surprise of the month

I remember now ....

I remember the first time I was exposed to Forbidden, it was a long time ago. It is may be the first time that a band - Pathos - reminds me so much the spirit of the American thrash metal band. Forbidden was one of the finest technical thrash metal band and we can say they didn't benefit as much as spotlight - luck?- as Metallica, Megadeth or even Anthax. But that's another story.

As said above, Pathos reminds me Forbidden and somehow, with their progressive & technical thrash metal, they are not that far away from Nevermore. On the other hand, these guys will not make me believe they dislike Schaffer & Co ;). At least, the second track Inhale reminds me very much the double guitar/bass touch of Iced Earth. Of course, I could have found worst influences or comparisons. I mean ... sounding like a bridge of Nevermore & Iced Earth isn't it the best compliment that could any band dream of ?

This third effort entitled Katharsis - which means purge in Greek - is a wonderful piece of melodic/technical thrash metal that will remind you the best moment of Nevermore, Forbidden, Iron Maiden (melodies) and Iced Earth. I know it sounds absolutely not original here, but remember the first Iced Earth's record ... was it innovative ? Today, Iced Earth is a leader. I am not saying Pathos is about to become the next big thing, but if you listen carefully to the third track, Suicidal Saviour Lies, you will even discover two "buildings" : one coming directly from Iced Earth ... and the other one straight from Death. No doubt here, these guys from Gothenburg (Sweden) know how to write melodic, powerful and technical thrash songs. Yes my dear readers, here comes another promising Swedish thrash/heavy metal band ... and the vocalist is fantastic, great, marvelous.

It took me a lot of spins to fully absorbed Katharsis' complex world as this music doesn't penetrate the listener easily. But if you take the time to listen to this record, you will agree with me that these guys are talented musicians. You won't find a weak track ... may be a little "repetition" taste that vanishes away after a couple of spins. From the opening Katharsis until the beautiful Torn (eleventh track), you will be smashed by the hits like Violated - a moment of pleasure between speed, thrash & melodies - and Revelation - thrash metal is back !

No doubt about it, Pathos - which mean fervor in Greek - didn't came to play the "figurative new band". If you like the above mentioned bands, you must check this band. You must !!!
