If there is ever going to be a reunion by a classic doom metal band, than I'd prefer to have it with those members that were the core ingredients during a time when some great music was made and the band was at their musical peak. In this case, it's Candlemass!

"Doomed For Live-Reunion 2002" is a double live CD containing 17 heavy doom metal classics that covers material from the albums "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" through "Tales Of Creation". It was recorded in Stockholm of August 2002 and performed by the reunited, classic line-up of vocalist Messiah Marcolin, bassist/founder Leif Edling, guitarist Mats Bjorkman, lead guitarist Lars Johansson and drummer Jan Lindh during their reunion tour.. The release of the Candlemass remasters played a small part in causing the reunion.

Fans of Candlemass are sure to like this release. After all this time the band sounds heavier than ever. The recording is good considering it's a live release. The musiciaship is almost flawless. These guys play and sound like they never broke up. There's lots of crowd participation, which adds to the live atmosphere. My only complaint is Messiah Marcolin. He's a great vocalist and can still carry a tune. But at times he sounds tired, struggling to catch his breath and doesn't hit some of the notes the way he used to on some songs. Instead of trying to reach high octaves on some parts he compensates by opting for lower octaves. Compared to the 1990 "Live" album, this one falls a little short. But at least they made it a double live album and a respectable live release at that. Still worth adding to any existing Candlemass collection.

Now that Candlemass has reformed, I can only hope some new material is in the works!
