I doubt many of you know where Liechtenstein is located ! Liechtenstein is a small municipality stuck between Switzerland and Austria. Although they use Swiss francs and Swiss stamps, they have their own prince and their own government. They also have a couple of Gothic metal acts known as Erben Der Schöpfung (inherit the creation) and Elis. Those two bands are bound in the way that Erben Der Schöpfung's female lead singer Sabine Dünser and lead guitar player Pete Streit left the band to form Elis. Only original band member Oliver Falk continued with Erben Der Schöpfung and recruited new band members to continue the adventure.

Twilight is Erben Der Schöpfung's first album recorded and released in 2001. The band has now just signed a deal with Napalm Records and should be working soon on new materials Just like their fellow compatriots Elis, they use both English and German, and it's quite enjoyable to listen to German gothic metal. One of Erben Der Schöpfung's trademark is the use and abuse of synths such as on Ade which is probably the worst song on the album although it might have been one of the sweetest. Indeed the instrument takes a dominant place in their music and unfortunately tends to turn their gothic metal into some kind of eletronic gothic metal à la Theatre Of Tragedy, Atrocity and Artrosis to name but a few. It's not really a coincidence since the three guest musicians on Twilight are Atrocity's members (the band by the way just signed a deal with Napalm Records too). Martin Schmid on drums, Torsten Bauer on rythm guitar and Chris Lukhaup on additional vocals completed the line-up that recorded this album. Sabine Dünser on vocals, now with Elis, delivers quite a good performance on this album, but her vocals remain quite below what's best on this metal genre. Let's say she improved her vocals duties on Elis's God's Silence, Devil's Temptation (that I will probably review in a week or two).

Erben Der Schöpfung's Twilight is the kind of average album that I consider as listenable if you're a gothic freak such as me, but that if you're not in the gothic trip, then you should skip it and start off with more enjoyable albums.
