Wacken 2001 was an excellent “vineyard”. Amongst Saxon, Motorhead, Hammerfall, Grave Digger, … Primal Fear was also there. So was I with my brother Chris. That was the year we decided to go to the campus :( ... An excellent year !
I was very impressed by the number of cameras surrounding the stage back in 2001. With so many good bands that year, something was cooking … Grave Digger, Saxon and Hammerfall have used stuff from that year for their respective DVD. Saxon released recently The Chronicle – including the whole live at Wacken - and Grave Digger released its Tunes of Wacken last year. Now it is Primal Fear's turn to remind me Wacken 2001 with this DVD, The History Of Fear.
The DVD is cut in five chapters :
Chapter 1 : Wacken Open Air, 8/2001
The best part as far as I am concerned. At that time, Primal Fear was touring to promote Nuclear Fire. A wonderful show. The number of cameras is a plus here, covering perfectly the performance of the Eagles. Souvenir, souvenir :). This live was recorded in the afternoon … so the lightshow is inefficient. Luckily, the second chapter covers Primal Fear … at night. Set-list : Angel In Black, Battalions Of Hate, Nuclear Fire, Chainbreaker, Eye Of An Eagle, Fight The Firse, Running In The Dust, Sliver And Gold, Final Embrace. Chapter 2, Black Sun Tour 2002 That’s the Black Sun European Tour 2002. This time the lightshow is at the rendez-vous and with another set-list : Chainbreaker, Black Sun, Mindcontrol, Under Your Spell, Fear, Tears Of Rage, Armageddon, Living For Metal, Medley: One With The World, Satisfied, Born To Rock, Metal Gods. Chapter 3, Videoclips Angel In Black & Armageddon Chapter 4, Metal Warrior Report Chapter 5, Bootleg Section Covering Wacken 1998, Dynamo 1998, the European tour 1998, Gods Of Metal 2001, USA, South America, Jaws Of Death Japan, Bang Your Head, … the production is “cheap” (bootleg !) but the die-hard fans who have seen thess shows will appreciate them for … the souvenir “outcome”. Bonus Audio CD, 11 songs That’s an official Live bootleg, with songs from Wacken. The sound is correct. Another gift for the die-hard fans. This is an honest release from Primal Fear, with the first three Chapters being very well produced. If you are a fan of this band, you can’t miss that one :) |
