Now here I have an excellent surprise for all fans of True Heavy Metal. Ignitor are from, surprisingly, Austin Texas and it is quite obvious that they are influenced by Judas Priest and Iron Maiden but influences are all that is there, not derisive emulation. What I have here is six songs of pure, straight up, Metal with a capital M and that is exactly what I have been craving these past few weeks.

The lengthy Demonslayer starts this EP off and it is the perfect way to introduce listeners to Ignitor. A mostly midpaced metal anthem this has every metal cliché imaginable and yet it sounds so damn good. Soaring high vocals intertwine with vengeful rasps to show off front woman Erika’s more than capable range. What is most appealing about her voice is that she doesn’t sound like your normal female singer, she doesn’t go for the beautiful Tarja approach, nor does she go for the mannish Grave Digger way as the former White Skull singer did. She sounds powerful and metal and that’s all I ask in my singers. Anyways, after three minutes of old fashioned head banging metal, Demonslayer swiftly changes gears and for a brief moment we have a breakneck guitar assault that would make Jon Schaffer proud. Another standout cut, The Gray Ghost is dripping with melody and right from the get go a sweet guitar lick greets your ears. Another midpaced anthem, this truly does sound like a perfect meld of classic Priest and Powerslave era Iron Maiden. Ignitor present us with a “hail metal” tune in the way of this EP’s title track and it would put a smile on Joey Demaio’s face, with its unabashed metal love as well as a quote from the Kings themselves, Manowar.

Ignitor have what it takes to make it to the big leagues in metal, they have the talent and they have the ability to write the songs. Old fashioned, working mans metal does not have to be relegated to Wolf anymore.
