Surprise of the month

Like this album, I’m going to keep this review brief but too the point, slightly melodic but still hellishly brutal with an awesome mix of Dani Flith meets Tom Lindberg vocals and more standard death growls.....ok forget that.

Unlike most new wave American Metal bands, The Black Dahlia Murder are worth listening to. How’s that for to the point ?

Unfamiliar with their debut full-length Unhallowed, I received a three-song sampler of Miasma few weeks ago and immediately took notice. When I finally got the full-length I was kicking myself in the ass for not noticing these guys sooner, for unlike most of the newer American Metal bands, these guys know how to keep it brutal !

Having spent nearly the last two years touring, fully embracing the volatile nature of life on the road, The Black Dahlia Murder understandably took their experiences and put them to sound, thus giving birth to Miasma, their second full-length on Metal Blade Records.

From start to finish, Miasma wastes no time in establishing its presence as force to be reckoned with. Churning out track after track of violent yet oh-so-slick Brutal Death with subtle melodic elements and not-so-subtle Thrash tendencies, these boys from Detroit handle themselves like seasoned vets. Now don’t get me wrong, I am just as skeptical as you are when it comes to hyped bands, but these guys deliver, plain and simple. While it does become difficult to differentiate songs from one another as the album plays through, they are all of such high quality that it doesn’t matter. From beginning to end, this album maintains a level of class that should have any fan of quality metal taking notice.

With only two albums under their belts, these guys are just getting warmed up. Having already proven themselves more than capable of performing top-notch Brutal yet Melodic Death/Thrash, I can’t wait to see where they decide to take their sound in the (hopefully) near future. Slay on !
