This is Lana Lane's fifth regular LP (there as been a live and a collection
of ballads and a best of). The album start with a very nice symphonic
introduction that announce a good record. Most symphonic parts are played
on keyboards so better not wait for a Rhapsody like symphonic kind of
music. Lana's voice is very nice, sometimes described as angel like
by the press, I agree that she has a very nice voice. Then the second
track is the song bearing the name of the album : Secret Of Astrology.
Nice mid-tempo song with a great atmosphere behind the music, although
I'm not very fund of the chorus which I find to simple. Guitar solos
are really something, not fast or technical, but very melodic... sometimes
mixed with keyboards solos... bringing some progressive elements to
the song. To my opinion these keyboards moments don't add much to the
songs and some parts are really annoying unless you're a big progressive
fan. Second track Alexandra is a very simple ballad... nice lyrics and
nice vocal parts but the keyboards background is a 2 note repeating
annoyement that kills this nice song. The next one called Raining is
certainly the best song on this album. It reminds me a lot of some Asia
songs, with the background vocals you can find on Asia as well. Nice
chorus and nice melodic rock music, the main riff of the song is pretty
nice ;). Again on solo there's keyboard (organ actually) and very, much
to electronic samples... that's unfortunate cause the guitar parts are
excellent. Anyway this shouldn't annoy prog fans to much. The albums
is almost on the same tone alternating from prog rock songs to slow
and ballads. A good album for progressive rock fans and Lana's voice
fan, I'm however warning people who loves symphonic metal... even though
the bands announced they are symphonic I would more say that it's prog
metal with some symphonic parts. |
