Not much thrash metal has been able to make its way to my ears this year, other than that of Hatriot’s Dawn of the New Centurion, fronted by the metal veteran Steve “Zetro” Souza and backed by some young and really talented musicians. Dust Bolt, a fairly new German thrash metal band, has released their sophomore album, Awake the Riot, which is another young group of “metal thrashers” making yet another solid entrance for the genre.

Awake the Riot contains many crazed riffs and catchy rhythmic leads such as the first explosive track Living Hell. It doesn't shy away from intensity much, as Soul Erazor will burst hotheaded mean riffs, and some quality drumming. More melodic tracks, such as my favorite song on the album, You Lost Sight, is a solidly written and well executed track from the young talent. For a band that used to cover a lot of punk songs, they have an old school sound that should make any hardcore thrashers pretty exultant.

The album does contain one epic track towards the very end, prior to the cover song Future Shock, called The Monotonous – Distant Scream. It begins on a slower note, but emerges forth with yet again a tenacious attitude shortly after bursting with one hell of gorgeously crafted solo that is one of the most memorable on the album.

Dust Bolt’s second album Awake the Riot is a great surprise no doubt. This young group has molded a thrash metal album with old school roots, with catchy riffs and an aggressive attitude from start to finish that will surely “Awake the Riot.”
