Really enjoying it so far.I've only heard Triune Impurity Rites by them and it's decent. They sound best when they really master incorporating doom elements into their blackened death metal sound. They aren't Nunslaughter; they don't have the riffs to do anything faster than midtempo and it is when they scale it back in pace that it works. I have both albums and I can say with certainty that it is very much ritualistic and very methodical music. It's meticulous with each and every riff and needs one to have already acquired a taste for atmospheric and mid-paced DM. I would give both albums an 85 or so.
traptunderice Define Infinity wrotetraptunderice wroteI AM NIETSZCHE I AM NIETZSCHE I AM NIETZSCHEWhat?Orchid went to school at Amherst, well educated in the liberal arts and humanities and such so they make philosophy references in their lyrics sometimes. The track "I Am Nietzche" (note misspelling) mocks 16yo kids who read Nietzsche and think they want to be that as if Nietzsche was telling them what they should be like a role model. The breakdown just has the singer screaming 'I Am Nietzsche' repeatedly and it's so awesome. Fuck it, listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edpot4xOqsI
traptunderice noodles wroteI should listen to more Orchid. Only heard Chaos is Me.You should. Dance Tonight is great. Their split with Pig Destroyer is amazing. Gatefold is good. Totality has some great tracks but is too long but is a compilation of a bunch of things.
MetalStorm Raven wroteMetalStorm wroteRaven wroteHow is it?I'm giving it another listen right now through the headphones. It is everything we have come to expect from Epica but I think the sound and compositions are more dynamic. There are some very nice uses of Arabian influences, the mix is very good, and there's a great balance of symphonic/classical tones, choirs, and the death metal bits. Simone, of course sounds fantastic however I think she's projecting her voice much better, more power. Lyrics are timely and thoughtful. As I predicted in a different thread, Epica and Xandria are making me forget all about Nightwish. Would you say it's better,on par or below Design Your Universe?

traptunderice Quintessential modern hardcore album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI8oos-w6GM Note the motorcycle riff at 1:35.
Afro_D-Shak Wait... this is actually a black metal album? No, seriously, this is a straightforward black metal album. I listened to this out boredom / curiosity and was not expecting it to sound like this at all. Weird.

Definitely on par and for me personally I would say better.
Afro_D-Shak I'm so amazed that Unleashed sounds no worse (and probably a bit better) today than they did 20+ years ago. Just... wow. Way to go guys. :dio:
Afro_D-Shak Really cool 90's death metal from Nebraska. Plodding yet visceral stuff. Not sure about those vocals though.
