Epic Ukrainian black metal...but no, not like Drudkh or Nokturnal Mortum at all. Tinged with death metal, very, very heavy stuff. Sort of like a black metal version of Dead Congregation?

Yeah, it is interesting, not sure if I like it yet. Definitely a bit different though.

Yeah, it is interesting, not sure if I like it yet. Definitely a bit different though.

Yeah, this is holding the top spot on my end-of-year list so far. We'll see what happens between now and then.

I only got Vektor's Outer Isolation a couple of months ago, so I keep forgetting that it's not eligible for the list, otherwise that would have been number 1.

Let's hope it's just the beginning of a prog thrash renaissance!

That said, HeXen have made an excellent second album.

Katatonia - Night Is The New Day

Katatonia makes some sublime music on this album. Åkerfeldt had called it one of the best albums of the last ten years. While I don't completely agree with him on that, this album reaches a phenomenal state of brilliance.
