Majesty and Decay was so. fucking. huge. I never heard the EP that came after but I'm told it, too, was excellent.

I am so ready for another full-length.

Neither have I. But I have all Immolation full-lengths and immensely enjoy them. One the few DM bands that I thoroughly absorb.

Most definitely. The production of their first few albums does not do justice to the complexity and detailing of their sound but still has a lot of atmosphere and does somewhat resonate for that, I suppose. However, after Failure for Gods, they managed to pull together a good production and their sound came alive and the production gave Immolation the annihilating sound they're so famous for!

Yeah, I think that the production (or at least, what I assumed the production would be like) was what stopped me from picking any of the earlier albums up before now.

As I said in the bad production thread, I think the more technical extreme bands need a clear production to be properly appreciated.

Well, if better production is not available to them, then it leaves no option but to release it which is very unfortunate.

Yeah, it is what it is. Sometimes you just have to accept it. Like for instance, I have a couple of old Suffocation albums, Effigy of the Forgotten and Pierced From Within. Great songs, but I wish the production did them justice.

I would say so. However Unholy Cult is the best starting place just in general. By far their most brutal album is Close To A World Below. Those 3 represent their most unique work imo.

Edit: As for their most underrated album, I would give that to Harnessing Ruin. It has kind of a weak production but the song writing is just so good. The riffs and the solos are powerful yet so catchy.

I think what elevates this band above most others in the genre is the almost beautiful touch they mix into the song writing at times. They never stray far from being brutal and crushing as hell of course, but still it can be very reminiscent of Chuck Schuldiner's work at times.

Hm, vocals aside, yes, especially Red-Skinned Scapegoat which brings the jazzy bits back...

I don't hate this, yet I won't be searching out the album when it comes out.
