Just watched Aguirre: Der Zorn Gottes. Astonishing film, so ashamed of myself for leaving it this long. The landscapes alone would be amazing enough were it not for Kinski's performance... unbelievable.

Reading the synopsis in IMDB, interesting. Germans playing Spaniards... :omfg:

Yeah, it is an excellent film, one of Herzog's best. I think the landscapes make the film oddly relaxing and symmetrical, despite the material.

Terrific movie. Klaus Kinski! Werner Herzog! You cannot go wrong with those two!

In honor of the coming prequel I watched the original The Thing today. Great movie. I'll go to the prequel if I read any good reviews of it.

Know what you mean about the landscapes, Emp, the whole dreamy nature of it all was wonderful, especially with majestic images like the boat in the tree and those final shots of him with all the monkeys. Wow.

Stefan, I have a boxset with all five of the films they made together. Part of me wants to savour them and part wants to watch them all back-to-back...
And yep, it's one of Alamaailman Vasarat, I think Jarno Sarkula.

Oh glad to hear you have the whole boxset. As Stefan mentioned, Fitzcarraldo is something very special as well. Make sure you are in a patient mood, because it is a long, spacious movie, but definitely worth the effort.

I also loved their version of the Dracula story, in particularly the eerie and ritualistic cinematography. Definitely had the urge to play some Negura Bunget while watching the journey to Dracula's castle.

I watched it today as well with the girlfriend because she'd never seen it. She enjoyed it, it was fun listening to her theorize which crew members were infected and watching her cringe at the chest maw scene 😃

Indeed. I was underwhelmed when I first saw it. "Best horror movie ever? WTF?" I said.

Then I watched it a second time and it hit me. What in the world could be so absolutely terrifying as a man chasing her wife and child with a fucking axe? And we get to watch this very normal man become this monster.

Been a favorite since then.

Indeed, but all the subtle stuff about the hotel gets weirder and weirder on each new viewing for me, from room 237 to the twins, to how Jack gets out of the locked storeroom, to the little boy who lives in Danny's mouth. You're never quite sure exactly what the fuck is going on - but you know that it's very fucking strange and creepy. Kubrick was a goddamn genius.
