On the Waterfront is an all-time favorite. Marlon Brando when he still gave a fuck.Excellent film adaptation of the seminal book by Richard Adams. The Criterion version contains some insightful commentary features: one on the film's creation with director Martin Rosen and another on it's impact on animation with Guillermo del Toro.

Very under rated Hoffman movie about an ex con that wants to go straight, but can't. IMO Hoffmans best, aside from Straw Dogs, maybe.

The Killing is a really solid old school caper flick. It's all about the process and execution of the heist. It and Paths of Glory showcase what an excellent director Kubrick was even in his early days.

Watched this last Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. A welcome addition to the Rocky universe that breathes some much needed new life into the franchise. Creed doesn’t quite touch the underdog charm of the original, but it more than holds its own amongst the Rocky cannon with excellent acting, a fluid storyline and a wonderfully fleshed out Philly backdrop. Ryan Coogler, who also directed star Michael B. Jordan in Fruitville Station, manages to skillfully tweak the Rocky formula into a quest for self-identity and acceptance through hard work and sheer personal determination. Jordan proves his physical and emotional mettle in the title role while co-star Stallone gives what may be his best performance since...well, Rocky I. Don’t be surprised if you see Sly’s name on a few ballots for best supporting actor at the end of this year. Would definitely go see this again in theaters.

Good question. Will definitely think about it and get back to this post. That article certainly made me want to see Heaven's Gate, Cimino was always the guy I knew for the Deer Hunter before his career disappeared with Heaven's Gate.

For sure. Aside from the terrible editing, the Transformers flicks can't decide if they want to be campy fun or quasi-serious action-adventure. The tone just bounces all over the place. But that's just scratching the surface of what's wrong with that franchise.On the bombs, I feel that 13th Warrior gets a bad rap. It definitely has it's problems (it is a Crichton property, after all), but the historical premise is intriguing (Ibn Fadlan was a real dude who DID witness a viking funeral), the action sequences are pure bloody fun (Vikings vs Cannibal Bear People!!) and the cast works just fine for a barbarian hack n' slash actioner. The 6.6 rating on IMDB is about right for Banderas and his merry band of berserkers.

Fueled by his love of justice and cheap, domestic beer, McQuade tears across the Texas plains busting horse rustlers, hijackers and Carradine's illegal arms racket while wearing his disdain for personal hygiene like a badge of honor. Just...fucking glorious!!
