Well, if I am not mistaken, only one case scenario would qualify Scotland (given a loss against Spain):
- Czech Rep has to lose everything (loss against Spain AND Lithuania)
- Scotland has to win against Liechtenstein (easy).
- Then Scotland, being 2nd of the group, has to beat another 2nd-ranked team.
So, there is still a chance, but Czech Rep. only needs one draw out of two matches. Tough for Scotland. This 2-2 last night, especially this non-existant penalty, is the real turning point. Football is the most unfair game on the planet, but that's part of it's beauty I guess.
While I'm at it, let's see the situation for your other beloved team, Switzerland:
- England 17 pts
- Montenegro 11pts (+2)
- Switzerland 8 pts (+2)
Remaining games:
Wales - Switzerland
Montenegro - England
Then:
Switzerland - Montenegro (!!!, result of previously played Montenegro - Switzerland: 1-0)
Wow, most interesting. If Switzerland wins against Wales and wins against Montenegro by a 2-goal margin, Switzerland is 2nd no matter what. But England definitely can beat Montenegro, so Switzerland is actually not in bad shape at all.
Ah! I love qualification rounds.
