Before listening to the album, I had heard about In Flames trying to get back to their own self. Being a fan of their older stuff, I was quite happy to hear that. However, Come Clarity has let me down. It isnt anywhere near the old sound. This album can arguably be rated anywhere in the sixties but 95 is definitely way too overrated.

In the context of combining the heaviness and experimentation of Soundtrack, with the brand of melodic death In Flames is famous for, this albums is just about perfect. It is immediately modern, yet there is no mistaking who it is. The screams have never been harsher, and the riffs have never been heavier. I'm not going to blame anyone for hating the clean vocals, I happen to welcome the change. What was so sorely missing from Sountrack was some enthusiasm, but In Flames has never felt as energetic as they do in Come Clarity. You may not like the music, but at least it doesn't feel insincere or half hearted.I do have a few gripes however. Mostly the last song, "Your Bed Time Story is Scaring Everyone," I was so glad to hear a piano piece in the album but it ends up as little more than a glorified outro, when it seemed like it could have been developed into a full fledged song. And the cover illustration is very juvenile, especially compared to past covers. It didn't help that they put the little sketchy heart man all over the lyrics sheet as well. It looks like something I would sketch in my diary if I were a 14 year old girl. Overall though, my faith in this band is totally restored.

So....you don't think this is a perfect album?

Megadeth blatantly changed their sound to become more commercial, they did it at an increasing rate over a period of four albums (Countdown->Risk). Thats not to say I dislike 2 and a quarter of those albums, but how can you say AE and Bodom changed their sound to become more commercial and Megadeth didn't? As much as I dislike the new Bodom record there is no fill-blown pop music to be found on it, unlike Cryptic Writing and Risk.

Megadeth blatantly changed their sound to become more commercial, they did it at an increasing rate over a period of four albums (Countdown->Risk). It's like what happened when Killswitch engage lost their singer and got Howard Jones, they went from being awesome to being a sort of Emo Core thing. I wouldn't go as far as to call this Emo Core but it's a step in that general direction. Look at the Cover art, it's a guy ripping out his heart (very emo style, like something off a hurt process album), it's not at all what I'd expect to see on the front of an In Flames album.
Cover art and selling out aside, if you listen to the album you'll see that whilst they may have changed their sound to have more appeal, they still kick a fair amount of arse and they managed to maintain the heaviness and generall goodness of In Flames. Whoever it was that compared them to Trivium was 100% right though, they do actually sound like Trivium here. "

Well, unfortunately your expectations were in the wrong spot. All of the Come Clarity discussion here should have told you it wasn't like the old stuff. There is a connection, it's like latter-day old stuff like Colony and Clayman mixed in with their latest stuff.

Slipknot Iowa (2001) CD Review😃on't say this is music for kids. It's not aimed at kids and young kids shouldn't listen to it. I had a proper look at the lyrics page yesterday. The first line of "disasterpiece" is " I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound". Despite the sick lyrics, This album is awesome to listen to. It is unique in every way. The sound is a mix of nu and death metal. The bands image is unique, they all wear gruesome masks. Even the album sleeve is unusual. The cover is shiny silver and the lyrics pages are tranlucent printed with images of the band members. One thing many people say about Slipknot is that they lack talent. this is bullshit. Listening carefully to the songs you realise how complex they are. I can't imagine how they wrote the songs as they have 9 members and they had to write a part for each member that fitted in with the rest and sounded good. Also the artists themselves are good at their instruments. Mick Thompson is recognised as one of the best guitarsists around today and Joey Jordison is on my list of top 10 drummers. The songs themselves are loud fast moving, heavy and have that little spark that brings it all to life. You can tell you are about to experience something good from when you first hear the intro to the album "(515)". It is chilling, strange and very very weird to listen to. The first proper track is "People = Shit" which has some kickass scream rapping from Corey Taylor. The lyrics are sick but fit perfectly into place with the music. Not all the tracks are as heavy as People = Shit. "Gently" is a fairly slow song with a pretty creepy intro. but the best tracks are the fastest ones with the catchy choruses like "Left behind" and "My Plague". Love em or hate em Slipknot are unique and we won't have anything quite like them again

Actually, I love Reroute to Remain. Not wanting to compare the albums, RtR is to In Flames like Projector is to Dark Tranquillity, except that In Flames went down with STYE while Dark Tranquillity made a one time experiment in that way and then continued to practice their sound not letting down the fans and really improving and refreshing it.

In Flames decided they liked the tuned down guitares and sound, and simplified what once was awesome. In this last album they managed to get back the harmony's, but somethings missing though :?
