It plays the note, but there's absolutely no sustain> Thats the other thing i thought it could be, try raising your action (it could be that the strings are hitting your fret board and stoping them ringing out). Keep doing it evenly on both the high and low screws untill your happy that its sustaining well enough for you. It might be a bit harder to play at first but you'll get used to it.

It plays the note, but there's absolutely no sustain> I find that during the winter, the cold sometimes affects my string's action and completely miffs out the note- though its never happened to all six strings at once. If fixing the action, as stuart reccomends, doesn't work, take it to a guitar shop.
Mintrude Oh, the action thing seems right, but I measured the action and it seems considerably higher than most guitar books recommend (it's 0.5 cm off the board). I'll take a look at it, but I think I'll need someone who knows what they're doing to help me out.
