Funnily enough, I haven't actually heard anything from the Socialist Workers Party about this... I would have been expecting them on the phone every five minutes harrassing people to go vote against it. Maybe I'm just out of the loop with them....On the other hand, if it passes, I'd like to see anyone actually try to get them off campus
GBT, there are very, very few actual anti-semites on campus, as far as I am aware. This definitely seems to me to be more about a pro-Israel (or more accurately: anti-Palestinian) agenda rather than genuine concern that many people are getting confused between Jews and Zionists. even if it was, there are much better ways to deal with that problem.
It's fun all this democracy stuff. One of the other motions is this:
- This union condemns Palestinian rocket strikes into Israel, killing Israeli civillians.
- Of course I do, this goes without saying. But, the whole thing doesn't even mention the fact that vastly more Palestinian civillians are killed by the Israeli military than vice versa... incomparably so, in fact. So, on the one hand of course I want to vote in support of this, but on the other, isn't it obviously just an emotive and hard-to-counter way of whitewashing the conflict so it looks like its just the Palestinians who are the bad guys, yet again?
