So, almost done Battlestar Galactica season 2. The first half was generally pretty awesome- focusing on the best characters like Baltar, Tigh, Tyrol, Adama and Roslyn is definitely a good idea. Importantly also, the drama flowed from one episode to another- there were very few random threats or characters that appear out of nowhere for one episode and which are then quickly resolved.
Unfortunately, the second half has kind of been the opposite. It started off very well with the Pegasus storyline, and there have been some good Baltar moments, but otherwise the writers have focused mainly on Apollo, easily the most annoying and useless character, and other characters who are nice in small doses but grate quickly (Starbuck, Dualla). I also don't like the plot in each episode deals with a problem we've never heard of before and introduces a new character who will be dead by the end of the episode with that problem neatly resolved- the next episode will then generally skip a month ahead so that no momentum can be built or repercussions felt (WTF? Seriously... the first season and a half takes place over three-four months or so and the last five episodes have jumped through five months or something ridiculous). The season's getting to an end, so hopefully we'll get back to plot, hopefully the interesting characters will get screentime, and hopefully Apollo will die in the next episode.
