This. I feel like even in the last two years this is what I've been doing. More Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, hardcore, Van Morrison, EDM, but I still primarily listen to metal but am branching out into a lot of things.

I don't listen to much metal anymore. I don't feel like my tastes have changed since I still listen to stuff that makes me excited for the same reason metal makes me excited, (and new albums by favourites still get me goin') but I haven't fallen in love with any metal bands in the last few years.

Haha .. I bought it 'cause it was on sale at HMV, mostly out of curiosity. Blaze's voice does take some serious getting used to .. not sure if I ever will!

Well, I consider The X Factor a very strong effort by Iron Maiden but Bayley's voice needs a bit of getting use to. I bought it because the song writing and structure is very strong. And I read somewhere that Steve Harris thinks The X Factor is an album which is next to The Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

Yes, they're always on sale. I bought it off Amazon as it is basically the same price (I was lazy to go to the mall). Blaze's voice is definitely not for everyone but I really don't mind it.

yeah I remember when I did that. I wound up in a mental institution for 2 months, then I finally got a little headset to listen to the local radio stations and I tuned into the classic rock station and realized how much I fucking love music. Fuck that was beautiful. How many of you have completely shut off music for like 1 year and a half outside of what you can't go without hearing, to not even hearing any music for 2 months to finding music again?

Lots of kids get into metal in high school because it's cool but then they calm down.

To keep informed about what's going on in the metal scene nowadays.
Even though I don't listen to much metal, I prefer taking advice from forumites and reviewers of Metal Reviews than any place else.
Now, if you disagree that this is the best metal community around, maybe it's you who shouldn't be posting in this "haven for poseurs and infidels"...

It is wierd to post on a Metal website when one has only a passing interest in it.

I have a passing interest in punk but certainly don't post on any of those forums.

Yeah. I'll probably end up getting more into classical as the years go by, but I also listen to more death metal now than I did 5 years ago. When you've been at this metal thing for more than a decade it seems hard to stop.
Indeed, been listening to this stuff for over 15 years now, I see no reason to stop.

I've been listening to Metal since 1992! I'm 31 now and don't intend to stop.

I still get that same buzz out of listening to Ride The Lightning or Peace Sells But Who's Buying as I did nearly 20 years ago!

I've "toned" down though by accepting that I'm not much into Black Metal, ultra brutal/tech Death Metal or Grindcore.

I still listen to tons of heavy shit ala Atheist, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Gorefest etc etc.

On a serious note, how big is Metal in France?

Only French band that has got even remotely big is Gojira. I know more bands from Greece, Denmark and the Netherlands and even bloody Singapore than France.

When I was in France just recently, most CD shops didn't even stock the popular metal/hard rock stuff. Lots of jazz, pop and world music though.

I would like to think we have a somewhat decent community of people with comparable if not entirely similar interests. Listening habits may change but the individual is still shaped by metal.
