So, Wednesday night my wife and I went to see Iron Maiden and Dream Theater in Dallas. It was a great show overall with about 12,000 or something in attendance.
Dream Theater:
This was the third time I've seen DT and they were great as always. They opened up with As I Am, a personal fave, and the proceeded into A Right of Passage. Labrie sounded kinda rough at first but after the first song he was great.
The next four songs were:
Home (AWESOME!!!)
Constant Motion
Panic Attack
Pull Me Under
And then...they were done. I was pretty disappointed by how short their set was. I was hoping for at least 2-3 more songs.
Iron Maiden:
The sting of disappointment from the very brief DT appearance was short lived. As soon as Iron Maiden's intro came on the whole place went crazy and stayed that way for the next two hours. They opened up The Wicker Man and this was probably one of the coolest moments of my whole life. Bruce Dickinson is just an amazing singer and front man. He sounded great and the whole placed was singing along with the chorus.
I won't list every song they played because I don't think I could remember everything, but I will say this, the first 3/4 of the set was from Brave New World or later. If you are seeing them on this tour expecting to hear 10 classics, looks like you will be disappointed. I have to admit that while I love the the newer material, I was a bit let down. I know my wife was bummed they didn't play run to the hills.
Slight disappointments aside, this was a great show and I'm very glad I decided to throw down the money and make the drive to see Maiden before they call it quits. An amazing band.
