I have a strongly pro-90s, pro-Scandinavian outlook which will never be shaken, and I know you gentlemen will never be convinced otherwise. And that is actually ok!Wolf's best albums of the 2000-2009 decade thread has me pouring over the years through the nostalgia. Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
No doubt (most of) the best Black Metal was from early-mid 90s Norway, but look at where those bands influences came from.
Like I said, it's more about the purity of the music than an actual sound, or even any given style.

Which is, as I explained, why to me Black metal is really a continuation of the tradition set by metal in the 80s.
