I've locked horns with a fans of newer brutal death metal on the subject, and even now I think the album really outshines a lot of "brutal" bands. Keeping in mind the time the album was devised CC, Cryptopsy, Atheist, Suffocation, Gorguts, and many other bands were really expanding on the territory laid by some of the more extreme thrash bands. For newer brutal death bands, they really are hard pressed to try something new, while there are some intense bands out there, in terms of brutality they don't stack well to the older days. The whole field of death metal really began with Morbid Angel iny my opinion, and from down onward there really hasn't been much in terms of innovation...
