Ok, so I just gave the whole album a listen. I think the time away from it has helped to clarify my view of it.
Firstly, I don't hate it as much as I thought I did. I think my long term memory converted disappointment into hate somewhere down the line.
As for why it leaves me cold, its the atmosphere of the album, which in this particular case I'm describing as a combination of the production, which is a little bland and lifeless, and the dynamics, or lack thereof.
This sort of tech thrash requires a true mastery of dynamics and tonal shifts, and (at least on this album) these guys don't display the mastery of a coroner or a vektor or a hexenhaus. It seems almost like they slow down and speed up for the sake of it, and not because it benefits the composition.
It's a respectable attempt I guess, I just don't see myself listening to it for pleasure very much.
