That's fair; nonetheless, you will come to appreciate it either a few years from now or down the road. Never forgot everything made now is in one-way-or-another a derivative of what came before it. Everyone I talk to being very experienced people in the Metal-world, talk about going back to the roots of Metal and the straight-forward approach to Rock'n'Roll.

You see--I am myself after 15 years of Metal--am really just getting into Slayer just because I can appreciate and ultimately love the raw sound much more than I did before. Thrash Metal was one my least favourite of genres in Metal but that has changed and I'm very glad that it has; you understand my saying, I'm sure 🙂.

Of course, everyone is different, and metal is pretty diverse. Some of us have been around metal just as long as you, and never really took to thrash.

Thrash was just an example that came to my mind. Of course, taste varies. That's something that goes without saying. Opinions! Tastes change, they evolve, rarely do they stay the same! Indeed, Metal is extremely diverse; appreciation and coming to love something is and was my entire point. It is never a force to love something but rather over a long period of time that one comes to appreciate and love a particular genre of Metal or that might never happen for an individual.

I wasn't a fan of straight up heavy metal, then I discovered The Lord Weird Slough Feg.

I'm happy. Only two days behind schedule, schoolwork-wise, and my girlfriend spent a long time singing to me tonight. I sang her two songs too. Next couple weeks are looking busy but doable. Yeah.

funny part is i don't really like Thrash at the moment lol. So i can tell what your saying is true 😛

Trying to decide what to do after I graduate combined with writing term papers is a stressful combo. I made my gf happy this afternoon though so that was nice.

I always dispute the difference between their influence, songwriting, and ability. Plus, I've never understood the praise that's awarded to players like Clapton and Page.

The lists tend to be a mush of influence/skill/popularity/reviewer's personal favourites/etc, but it's hard to move beyond that in an objective way. I'm not really a fan of Clapton and Page either but I can see why they get on the lists 'cause even I know a handful of Led Zeppelin and Cream riffs.

Look on the bright side: you have a wife you can debate lists of guitarists with! 😃

Regardless of whether you like Tool or not, I think you could have worded that better.

I'm very happy and lucky that I'm married to a woman who knows her music so that we can discuss these sorts of issues. I do understand that Page has written some unforgettable riffs and songs but my argument is that a ton of other guitarists have done the same and don't receive a fraction of the adulation that he garners. As for Clapton, yes the riff for Layla is very cool but I don't think that 'I Shot The Sheriff', 'Cocaine', or 'Tears In Heaven' have ever inspired anyone to pick up a guitar.

My other complaint centers around the buffoons that Rolling Stone mailed ballots out to. I mean they asked two guys from 'My Morning Jacket' to participate in the voting. C'mon!! I find that all validity is in question solely because they asked Mick Mars for his opinion. :lol:
