Is Sludgecore a genre? Well, Kylesa are like an eerie sludge/hardcore band. They have a male and female singer, the latter often sounding like the haunted Dawn Crosby (RIP) of Fear Of God. I first heard them on their last album To Walk A Middle Course and thought they kicked ass! Their earlier albums are a mixed bag, a bit messy, noisy and sort of lacking identity, but there are still some cool songs. This new album, however, seems like it's going to be really good. They also now have two drummers, for some weird, unknown reason. If sludge was doom it wouldn't be called sludge. Crowbar is not doom. |
