Yeah, so I liked this band back in the grand ol' year of 2002. Then I stopped liking them 'cuz they weren't "Metal" enough.

Now, I'm listening to them again.

And I think they rule. :dio:

I can hear shades of Meshuggah in them. While they're not as over-the-top with the weird time signiatures, they sure do exist in their music. And they wrote some awesome tunes too.

Of course, you're free to disagree if you feel so inclined, as I'm sure many of you do.

Mudvayne is excellent! Progressive nu-metal? What would you classify them as? Their bass player is sick.

I'd personally classify them more as Alternative Math Metal than Progressive Nu Metal, as I hear more Alternative in their sound than Nu and the weird time signatures are more a staple of the Math Metal genre than the Progressive genre.

And their bass player is indeed very very sick. :dio: I never really listened to the bass that much back then, but now I can hear that this guy really rules.

Math metal is progressive nu-metal. :P

Hehe I remember when my friend introduced me to them I thought they were too heavy for me :/. My favourite songs then, and now, are the ones where they sounded like Tool-lite (World So Cold...). I haven't heard them for about a year, but I don't remember them being progressive or mathy by a long shot.

They're most definitely somewhat progressive. Your idea of "mathy" is "unstructured and shitty." Mudvayne are neither, so I understand your confusion.

Anyway, never bought an album but I think I liked their freaky makeup period quite a lot at one point, can't remember. Progressive nu-metal is probably a fairly accurate term... Somewhere between Tool and Slipknot maybe.

Anyway I really hope their bassist gets better soon.

Decent band, put on a good show live too.

Think they got unfairly tarred with the nu metal brush due to 'dig' and wearing makeup.

Didn't actually know they were still around...how many albums do they have?

 Win!

The question is: Mudvayne?
The answer is: Bwahahaha

Actually I've only heard a few of their songs, but they just seemed really silly to me.

What was the first "post face paint" one? "I/I stand/not falling," yeah that song sucked.

But hardly being heard gives him an excuse to try to play stuff that's too difficult for him!

One thing I remember though was that the guitarist uses .13 strings. FUUCKK!!

Their guitarist is very good, too. They have four albums total.

LD 50 and The End of All Things to Come were goods albums, for what they were. Which i consider to be Prog-Nu with small doses of math-y noisy time-changey stuff. Prog-nu-math?!? :)

Ugggghhh, I hate, hate, hate his shitty whiny little voice. He sounds like a 5 year old crying for his mother.

And thanks for getting that song stuck in my head. I gotta go stab pencils into my brain now.

mudvayne is a killer band that puts on a killer live show

yes ryan martinie is a bad ass bass player

yes chad grey's voice is whiney but it fits the music perfectly

it is progressive cause it pulled a lot of peoples head out of their asses and said oh , wait, you mean you can to more than just a single finger barre chord [ still its a barre chord but at least they throw in a minor 3rd or 7th to give it some depth ]

Yeah no one was doing that before the 'vayne.

I prefered it when one of them was called sPAg or something like that.
