So I thought these guys were just a bunch of boring whimpy Japanese fairies who had no musical value...

But then I saw a couple videos of theirs. Now I'm convinced that they don't suck.

Video "Saku": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZsyWFCAWfE
Video "Kodou": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0Q6ZVQGs58

Any thoughts? What?

Wow, I got their CD today, and from my initial impression, it's a bombshell of awesome. Their vocalist has an awesome voice, and there are quite a few cool cultural touches like in Saku and The Final. If you like what you heard in the videos, I would definately reccomend it.

Initial score in the low-mid 80s, but it can change, probably for the better.

Lately I have been listening these Japanese rock bands and I have noticed that they play pretty good music if you just forget that most of them look really ridiculous :P .

Dir en Grey might be my favourite of them. Their debut Gauze is pretty normal rock with some weirdness. Then they started to really experiment with their sound. On their latest album I think they finally found a sound that fits them well. So Gauze and Withering to Death are certainly my favourites, albums between them somehow lack something, but are still OK.

Their latest songs makes it seem that they continue on the path they found on their latest full-lenght, so I will probably buy their next album too.

I've only heard Withering To Death, so I can't really comment on their back catalogue. I'll check out Gauze, though.

And I have noticed a good bit of experimentation. Shit doesn't get too weird, it's a healthy dosage if anything.

And their new album is supposed to come out next year, right? If it's anything like this, I'll definately get it. :dio:

I like the first two albums, even though Kyo's voice wasn't as strong back then.

The new stuff is produced better and played better, but I can't stand the material.
