This would be more useful. Not that loud, small and doesn't make metal detectors squeal.

But it's still fatal. I don't know about your laws over there, here killing in self-defence isn't looked on very well. At least with the baton the fucker's still alive...

I'm not sure I would even go to jail if the guy had a record of thieving. Weapons aren't looked badly in here, a very big minority of people have them. I'm thinking of buying one too later on, you never know what you're gonna face in life.

This is an old saying: The 3 most important things for the Turkish, Horse , Women, Weapon.

Switch horse with car and there ya go.

Jesus. OK.

From the first day I got here I've been trying to tell you all, we Turks are crazy people. Crazy I tell ya!

I've been trying to be all, "let them join the EU, bless 'em", despite all the shootings of babies in restaurants. But now I may have to reconsider. I mean, what kind of people put horses before women?!

It's not like that, horses aren't more important. It's just an old saying, nothing serious. Horse is a historic figure for us, we came from all the way from middle eastern asia to europe, people were born on horses and died on horses.

Yeah, I realise that, I was making a silly joke. God, I'm wasted here...

there are extendable police-stick-like thingies for sale, light but VERY hard.

but you see, that's what i don't want, i don't want people going around with weapons because they have so little trust of everyone else. but sadly, that's the way it's going.

as or guns... i'd never carry one. if you must, open up another thread for it...

I almost got mugged on a vacation to Lisboa once (down in Bairro Alto (spelling?)).. I presented the bastard to what the Swedes call a "Danish headbutt".. The fucker didn't see that one coming hehe.. I left him where he fell...

It seems like you have a law enforcement problem down there..

Bairro Alto is one of lisbon's main "night areas", but the crowd there has been getting worse. niggers (not black guys, niggers), nazis, stupid kids...

as for law enforcement, the police have outdated means and just beating some guy or shotting him (even with a good reason) means tons of paperwork and trouble for the policeman involved.

but i wouldn't say just law enforcement is to blame here, it's that certain "people" decide to act like animals. it's a mix of bad parenting, shitty schools, tough neighbourhoods, bad integration and plain old "being a worthless piece of shit who thinks they have a right to everyone else's stuff".... too complex to be solved by more police alone.

The worst thing in these cases is you feel like you got raped or something, weak and unprotected! Personally I had such a run in when I was about 12-13 years old that changed my life. This guy came up to me in the arcades and was constantly pestering me for change. He didn't take much money but that's not the issue, the issue is I felt like crap for not being able to defend myself. So since, I started karate, I then started going to the gym, and now at age 24 I have a black belt, big muscles and I likely won't get mugged again until I'm really old or something  !

Now as far as thefts go, when I was on my 5fth year of med school in Crete, my mom calls me and says burglars broke in the house! My first reaction was "OH GOD, MY RECORDS!!!". After the initial heart attack, she pointed out they broke into our family home in Cyprus, not my house in Crete! Anyway, they stole about 4k $ worth of stuff (including my ps2), but I didn't really realize anything until I came back home and saw pictures of my room with everything thrown upside down. I don't know about you guys, but if I ever caught someone breaking into my house I'd kill him, plain and simple!

p.s: Of course as a friend later pointed out "Noone would steal your albums, even if you'd pay them!". Which kinda makes sense

Somehow we seem to share the exact same feelings about this, even though luckily it never happened to me. Seriously, having my apartment raided is one of the worst things I can imagine - talk about feeling raped.
