Well. What can I say to you, I´m sorry that you apreciate the music only, and you consider art disposable only because it is not unique.

I have another perspective: I see the Cd as an artistic object, from the music to the sheet inside. The music is the most important part (of course).

Let me ask you this:
"Woud you buy the Guernica painting of picasso, or the davincis' Madonna without the frame"? I wouldn't it woud always be incomplete.

I can see your point.

My CD collection is not very big, about 200 CDs. And I can't even remember the last time I actually put one in my stereo.

It's those damn mp3 players, and those big HDs. It's so more convenient to rip everything you have to mp3 and put everything in your new 60GB Ipod. Or store them all on your 400GB Hard-Drive. Use random play, categorize by genre, make playlists.

Of course I'm still buying CDs, because I like the idea of HAVING the album, supporting my favourite bands. But normally once I rip the album to my hard-drive and then to my mp3 player ... The CD itself goes to some closet, way back with other stuff. They're there for "disaster recovery" too. What if my Ipod breaks, or my hard-drive gets ruined?

Anyway ... if you're planning to sell them, I see your point. Just make a good backup of them in your hard-drive, or burn them all into a DVD-R !
