evolution doesn't say we're descended from apes. it says we share a common ancestor. also if you believe in natural selection and adaptation, then you believe in evolution... if you disagree with scientists about specifics like humanity/apes's common ancestor, you should do some research and write your thesis on it or something :P

May be I should've been a little more clear with my "Evolution" question then, since I was thinking of the commonly accepted interpretation of it (that human beings were descended from apes and/or ape-like creatures). Though, if you're using the term "evolution" in its more literal definition (the one you just gave), then yes, you could say I believe in some kind of "evolution." I hesitate to call it THE "Evolution", though, since it doesn't completely follow the standard interpretation of Evolution.

As for writing my thesis on it, ehhhh, I think I'll stick to computer science for now. Thank you very much. ;)

i just don't get why you'd agree to the theory of evolution, but disagree with the conclusions that people who know far more than you or i about evolution have reached by combining the theory with actual observation.

also the reason they believe humans descended from ape-like creatures is because we are ape-like creatures ;)

Well, this is why Evolution is called a "theory" rather than a "fact." There hasn't yet been anything to significantly disprove it. But, at the same time, we haven't yet reached that "link" firmly confirming Evolution really happened. Even though I don't actively study Evolution, I believe what makes sense to me at the moment. Rather than being so quick to give into what somebody else suggests just because he/she "knows more about the subject than I do." Plus, even respected anthropologists and biologists have slightly different interpretations of Evolution and disagree on certain things. It's not a completely linear theory.

In the world of Science, a good 90% of what you work with is unproven theory. And for every theory that even makes it past the science community, there are a good 50 or so that are debunked before anybody can even know about them. And even those that survive often have differing interpretations. Some more drastic than others.

eh, i haven't seen/heard any convincing evidence against evolution and the that there hasn't been a "missing link" or whatever discovered seems kind of irrelevant compared to every other living thing and fossil being in support of evolution =\

Be mindful, though, that if you're a scientist, it's your job to keep searching for those loop holes that prove (beyond a shadow of a doubt) whatever theories you study. :)

By the way, for those who are curious about what I think of Young Earth Creationism (ie. attempting to scientifically prove literal Biblical Creationism), I think most YEC scientists are frauds and/or liars. Here's an example of a YEC argument by Australian Creation "Scientist" John Hartnett:

"A time dilation field enclosed the Earth during creation, so that it could be done in a seven day period."

Of course, he attributes this "time dilation field" to (surprise, surprise) divine intervention. Worse yet, he has absolutely no evidence (concrete or logical) backing up his claim. This, in other words, is not a theory. It's just an idea (and one that IMHO sounds ridiculous even from a theological standpoint - as if he's just tossing out anything that sounds "scientific" to suggest literal Biblical Creation happened).

Most of the other YEC arguments I've seen have had the same problem. Biblical creation is IMO a figurative truth, but not a literal truth. It's a relatable and easy-to-comprehend account on how the Earth was created. But it's not to be taken literally (for example, I believe the word "day" in the "six days of creation" is a metaphor for "era" - with Evolution, naturally, being part of the "sixth era").
