It's funny how everybody everywhere complains about Vista, yet I haven't run into any major problems. *knock on wood*

besides the random stupid little thing, this computer runs fine. And no Blue Screens of Death for me.

*knock on wood again*

I had Vista 64 bit originally and it worked fine, but after I had a power supply burn out and a hd failure, the idiots installed v32 instead and ever since I've had these random freezes and bluescreens, whatever the application, even browsing through the MP3 files on my external hd. Nothing seemed to help, and I don't want to lose another hd to all the forced restarts, so hopefully wiping everything and installing W7 will sort all of this out. It'll get down to work, not stand there like the smug prat in the Apple adverts. And isn't this Snow Leopard thing shit anyway?

Macs are decent for dicking around on the internet. But there are no games for them, so what's the point?

Don't they recommend that you don't buy a new version of Windows until its been available for a year, after which time all the glaringly obvious bugs will have been exposed and patched up?

So far, I have heard good things about Windows 7. Vista was and is crap. That's why I still use XP. I might give windows 7 a try and I think you can too. It is much faster to install and looks good. I am no MS fan, but windows 7 seems to be better and agree with ganesharules that vista was so crappy that anything is an improvement. Give it a shot, but as Radagast said, a little latter. Maybe after a couple of months.

I had Vista for like six months and never had any problems with it, i did downgrade it to xp but that was because my laptop only has 1gb of ram and i felt it wasnt enough to run vista smoothly.

I was hoping for a "...and Zad was never heard from again" post, but oh well, clearly the MR readership lacks as much wit as ever.

Windows 7! So far, so darned good. Everything's shiny and awesome, it's put my monitor on a high resolution automatically, and I'll be damned if my case fans aren't virtually silent, which they were never before. I love it.

About a year. You can download a free thing from Microsoft which'll tell you of any problems.

Vista has given me a ton of trouble. my computer died once, and now it has this really stupid issue that i can't solve, when i log on to windows i have to immediately open something (i open opera because it's fast), if i don't then messenger and IE (and, i suspect, other MS programmes) don't open, and then when i try to log off it just stays on 'logging off' eternally. fucking stupid vista.

Had to buy a new computer today and had the luck there was a sale on one that is far from shabby and that has Windows7. So far it has been good, some nifty features and no problems at all so far. Can't really say how much better it is than vista because I never had that but judging from the look of my best friend when he was here, it's a lot better
