I've been in the same department for over 5 years now.
During that time, all our software has got more and more complicated and less and less functional.
Our finance system has even lost the ability to allow cutting and pasting. You now have to export it into a type of Excel spreadsheet that is not supported by our overall system and doesn't link in with the central data repositorys.
It's also got slower and we keep getting updates every couple of months that certain functions are no longer available.
Our HR systems have gone from being sent HR reports from a central point to having to download them yourself and having to reformat it into a readable format (it comes out unreadable). They are also less accurate.
Our monthly report has been converted to some idiotic overcomplicated spreadsheet with a million macros that's too big and tends to crash as well as being unfunctional and full of untraceable errors (they locked all the formula fields so you can't click on them).
And that's just my job. It's even worse for things like checking your online phone bill and my previous bank's online services started to get very complicated and very unreliable.
Or even bloody video games - anyone remember that awful Steam account you needed to play Half life 2 single player?!?
Why the fuck are these nerds so obsessed with making programs ever so complicated and yet can't make them work properly? Why not keep the simpler software that worked fine as opposed to making "improvements" that don't work and just cause innefficiency and frustration?
