That is definitely a horrible feeling. Here, have some e-dollars (hands $50). That should help you along the way to pointlessness.

Goddamnit, I know I sound like the archetypical angsty teen, but that's the way I feel right now.

Does this mean more poetry? Seriously though feel better man.

I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. My cold's nearly gone, and I didn't walk into any vans today, so that's a plus. Very easy to please, me.

You could probably fly for less than that.

Nice for the first. As for the trains, they're impossible. I can't afford them, have to go around by National Express (£9 Newcastle to Manchester), and so far have only once had to squash up against a big fat smelly man, so things aren't too bad.

Apparently if I'd booked several years in advance I could get it for £12... Looks like I suck for being unprepared.

i'm a happy panda, what with our victory against Liverpool yesterday, and today my class won a 5 on 5 footie match against some older students (including the captain of Sporting Lisbon's junior 5 on 5 team). bwahahaha

hmm there is something pissing me off today, i mean i'm still a happy panda but i could be happier.

today the new president Cavaco Silva takes charge. he's cool and all, but the whole pomp surrounding the event was rediculous. my college is right next to the parliament, and it was absolutely awful. what seemed to be half of portugal's police and military force were there, blocking the surrounding roads for cars and shit.

it was a crock of shit, with representatives from every country, in their fancy mercedes (class S and E, of course) and bmw's and volvos and audis, all with the diplomatic number plate (nice to see how they spend TAXPAYER'S MONEY responsibly) and drivers going there to see the new president "take charge". why can't he just go and sit in his office and do his fucking job? it's not like he has any real power anyway (that would be the prime minister). total bullshit. i don't understand all these STUPID FUCKING CEREMONIES.

this crap was probably followed by some long speech where they just say nothing significant for half an hour and everybody applauds (the sound of the president's yes man clapping probably wakes them up).

goddamn ceremonies. just sit in your office and do your fucking job.

When Michael Howard came to my college last year someone got arrested and taken into custody just for yelling the "C" word at him... And he was just opposition leader! Fuck knows what would happen to you if you chucked vegetables as Mr Blair.

Tessa Jowell got an egg, no? And I remember someone getting fined £80 for swearing in front of a policeman, which made me laugh. That can't happen very often, can it?

like i said, what seemed like half the army and police force was there.

and anyway my problem is with stupid ceremonies like that anyway, not with the man himself (in fact, of all the presidential candidates he was by far the best, except for singer Manuel Vieira who promised wine on tap).

stupid fucking ceremonies.

I wasn't serious. Would you describe him as being right- or left-wing?

he's right-wing (social-democrat), and one of portugal's top economists. he was prime minister in the 90's, and liked to use police charges a lot. although he was a bit "hard", fact is portugal needs people like him to run this place. it's a fucking mess here.

but i still can't get over the goddamn cerimonies. you know, when those distant uncles come over and you have some small talk about the weather and shit? that's what i think the president and all the stupid representatives did, shoot the shit, and wasted tons of taxpayer's money while they were at it.

Ruth Kelly got an egg... I felt sorry for the woman, actually!

As for Cavaco...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavaco_Silva

I'm not reading all of that. He calls himself a social democrat ( :D ) but also seems to believe in economic deregulation and trade liberalisation ( )

But if Azrael thinks he's cool, then that's enough for me :)

he's cool considering the other candidates:
-extreme left-wing (and my future Labour Law teacher) Garcia Pereira, who said he'd dissolve parliament if he won.
-left bloc leader Francisco Louça. he's an economist too, and has charisma and a handful of good ideas, but the lefty thing just ruins it for him.
-communist party leader jeronimo sousa. no comments.
-senile former president mario soares, who admitted he entered the presidential race JUST SO CAVACO COULDN'T WIN!
-manuel alegre, who deserted the portuguese army during the colonial war.
