I say :dio:

Yeah, I agree, I just hate that American attitude of "we have a shitload of nuclear weapons we're the only country that has ever used them, but we still get mad every time a country has some missile that might disrespect our selfcrowned world police status". Here's to you Amerika: Suck my rocket!!

 at overtly stereotypical foreign view of the US.

OK, just because the Prez thinks like that, doesn't mean the majority of the country does. I would venture to say that a lot of people in "Amerika" would rather we just left everything alone. And spare me the "world police" BS, you've been watching too many marionette movies. The thing is, we've made our bed. If the US didn't get involved in a lot of this shit, then there would be just as many people shouting from the rooftops that the US is too busy staring down its collective nose at the rest of the world to help out with any other country's problems. It's a lose, lose situation.

I'm not too sure about the latter situation, I'm merely pointing out the hypocrisy. Anyways, I thought it was kinda obvious that with "America" I mean the people that control America.

I'm absolutely sure about the latter situation. Bear in mind we'll likely never know if my thought is correct, but I guarantee you that's exactly what would happen.

I understand what you meant, but when you say "America", it stands to reason people will assume you're talking about the whole country. If I said "The Dutch are sniveling fuckwads", wouldn't you take it a bit more personally than if I said "The Dutch government are sniveling fuckwads". I'm not upset, and I do understand your point about hypocrisy which is unfortunately true, but you just might want to think about the way you're wording it so you don't set off the internet version of WWIII like Stefan did in the Hurricane Katrina thread.

I'd like my government more if it spent more money and time on its own country's problems rather than waving the costly(life and money) flag of democracy and freedom in areas that are critical to the economic interest of the rich and powerful.

Exactly. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen. Every politician seems to have this conscious drive to be seen as this great humanitarian that fixes all the world's ills, while letting their own country further circle the drain. It's pretty pathetic.

I understand your point of view, but I didn't "The Americans are sniveling fuckwads", I said something about "America thinks...", which does not equal "The Dutch think..." but equals "The Netherlands think...". Sorry for the nitpickery, but I want to get the fact straight.

Why are you so sure about people thinking "the latter" (out of laziness to rephrase the point)? It's not exactly like Europe is under either pressure, is it? Now I agree Europe might not be as powerful as the US, but it's still an unity that has to power to do something or nothing.

The American government is demanding that we dissolve the AWB (Australian Wheat Board) because it is earning us too much money.

The planet is pretty fucked up any way you look at it. The Americans may consume more natural resources than anyone else, and a lot of blame can be put in that direction, but they're not the only one without blame.

China has too huge a population. Britain, France, India, Pakistan, Russia, the usual suspect and most likely many others under the radar have all experimented with and have Nuclear power/weapons (with North Korea waiting in the wings to join in the fun).

Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel refuse to get along in the Middle East. Saddam had a blast with Iran, Kuwait and the 'Allies'. Large parts of Africa have an Aids epidemic. The Japanese and Germans did their bit a while ago.

Ice caps are melting, the world's getting warmer, our air's getting more poisonous and creatures are going extinct all the time. The riche are beating on the poor. Media is decieving people. Governments are useless. And there's nothing in outer space except rock...

I wanna become a dolphin (until I'm snared in fisherman nets). Cheque please!

Exactly my p.o.v. The world is fucked irredeemably, might as well enjoy what little time we have left before it all goes arse-over-tits.

Not necessarily true. Tea rains down here! My doctor told me that life expectency 200 years ago was much higher in Chian and Britain because of tea we consumed. There's a chemical in it kills germs. However, if you drunk too much tea a day you could actual overdose on it! It's why Roy Castle, Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill died

Churchill did live an awfully long life for being a notorious drinker, eater, and smoker.

I know you didn't say that, I was just making a point. No big deal.

I see what you're saying, but I just feel that there are so many people in this world that are just dead set on hating the US no matter what. If one policy is altered to someone's liking, they will just move on to the next soapbox. I don't want to imply you're one of these people, but you have to concede that they do exist. Also, like or not, many countries seem to expect that the US will step in to fix any given worldly problem. Not doing so would piss a lot of countries off, trust me.

Hmm, summing all world problems that the American government has tried to solve in the past, I recall at least the last few that I've followed, people here were collectively against even before the action.

ROY CASTLE! Jesus, I cried when I heard he died. I used o love that record-breakers thing he presented. Was only a kid, used to watc Blockbusters as well with that old bastard Bob Holmes, but that was good too.

Come and live in England, Rhys. It's all fun here, all bloody day long.

Apparently he was trying to break the world tea drinking record when it happened (overdose!)... Shame really...

(But the lung cancer may have had something to do with it!).

I had a mate who went on Blockbusters, he did two Gold-runs and got a shitty personal organiser, crappy rugby shirt & Dictionary, & a weekend in Belgium (great when you're 16, funny as fuck when you look back!)! They just don't make shows like they used to...
