They just had GM Joe Nieuwendyk on leafs lunch and he basically said that the Dallas Stars are cutting costs and Lehtonen is a cheaper younger potential starting goalie. Back when Lehtonen was drafted he was expected to be the next big thing, it's just a shit team mixed with injuries have held him back.

Olympic Hockey, Bitches !!!

This technically is the NHL thread, do we discuss Olympic hockey here or start another thread?

Something tells me at least one underdog team will make it to the finals. The Russia/Canada scenario is just too perfect to actually happen. Maybe they'll meet in the bronze game

If Canada doesn't make it to the finals, the entire country will implode.

Hell not winning gold is an ultimate failure. Or so that's what I hear.

That's certainly not out of the question. Though our team on paper can't compete with Canada or Russia, we do have above average goaltending, defense and (usually) team play. Sometimes that's all you need. Having Zetterberg, Bäckström and Sedin down the middle is certainly an area of strength as well.

The pressure is gonna be ON the Canadians but it's hard to imagine a team with that amount of skill and character won't have success.

Anything can happen. It's Olympic hockey, one game at a time. If each team played best of seven, I'd say that Canada and Russia would be without a doubt the finalists. But all it takes is for Brodeur to have one bad game and for Miller or Lundqvist to have a great one and that's it. People have raised their expectations way too high.

8-0 win !!!

Iggy with the trick and Lu with the shut-out.

Sure Norway is not Russia, Sweden, or USA but it was still quite impressive.

Come on, admit it, your palms were a little bit sweaty after the first period :)

It was an entertaining game. First period because Norway hung in there, third period because it was the Canada show.

I know how much this Olympics means to you Canadians with home ice, but has to be the attitude you take. Anything can happen, particularly since all top 7 teams (plus Swiss with Hiller) have at least one #1 NHL goalie who could easily stand on their head in a game and shut the Canadas or Russias out. The format favors the teams with major injury concerns like Russia (Markov) or Slovakia (Gaborik) because games don't actually=win or go home until the 23rd.

I wouldn't say "palms were sweaty" per-se, but sure I was thinking a bit about 06. But I knew Canada was just having chemisty issues. Norway has been playing in pre-tournaments so they all know each pretty well, where the canadians have only been a full team since mid-Sunday.
