NF: confused... I gave up music as a career, because it sucks. Now I'm looking at Masters Degrees in stuff like Political Science. The University of Birmingham says all I need is "a good honours degree", but doesn't mention any specific subjects.

Dare I hope that they would stretch to taking someone with a good honours in something as preposterous and irrelevant as Jazz music?

You gave up Music?! That must've been a tough choice. Good luck with the Political Science, and as long as it's a 'good honours degree', what should it matter? We need a saxophonist PM!

Well, I've given up playing for the time being. Honestly I don't know when or if I will go back to it. But I just thought... A career in jazz music? WTF? Who would want to do that? :?

I decided to try to do something useful with my life. Who knows what though. I mean to email them today. I wanted to do it earlier but I was nervous about getting an email from Birmingham along the lines of "LOLZ OMFG U HAV A MUSIC DEGREE U SUCK!!! FUCK OFF MUSO!!!!11111"

Fair enough. As we said in that other thread, music isn't the best way to feed yourself.

And go for it, I doubt that'll happen. If it does, sue 'em.

Indeed, apparently it's quite common for people to get depressed during only the winter.

My sore throat and congestion has added laryngitis to the party. I have to give a presentation in class today, and tonight is my last radio show of the semester. Son of a fuck.

You should do that. There are special lights to get rid of this.

Jazz musicians enjoy a good reputation for being tolerant, cosmopolitian, and prospective. These are the absolutely worst qualifications I can imagine for a politician.

Oh, how fashionable, I always wanted to be a human headlight. I'll scare little kids by pretending to be a train coming their way. (I'm a 5 yr old at heart)

I don't want to be a politician, I want to know about it... And "tolerant" certainly isn't a word I'd use to describe most of the jazz musicians I've met... more elitist and arrogant :P
