Of course I'm sad that the Habs lost. But honestly, I can't be upset about the way they played. Obviously the PK was having issues and Halak didn't play too well, but four PP goals in a row is a fluke and I really doubt it's going to happen again. 5-5 we matched them the entire time, and our own PP was very good, which is pretty amazing considering how little rest they've gotten. It was also a good move by Martin to pull Halak- let him rest a little more, and hopefully he'll get back to awesomeness in Game 2.

And of course, the depression sinks in. Markov's gone. Fuck. I hate Cooke so goddamn much. Markov is without a doubt the best player on our team- there's a reason why our record with him is so much better than our record without him. This definitely cuts down our chances of winning this series. Jordan Staal is also a big loss, but not quite the same as losing Markov is for the Habs.

I beg to differ, Staal is a selke nominee. He is the best 3rd liner in the league. He runs their pk, he also plays on the pp. Losing Staal is just as bad as losing Markov.

And I have to disagree with you. Staal is one of the most overrated players in the league.

Anyway, great OT period by the Bs and Flyers. Boucher was incredible, and Rask made a couple great stops too, and then Savard got the winner. Having him get healthy could make all the difference for Boston.

how exactly is he overrated? Any team would love to have him, he's only on the 3rd line in Pitts because of Crosby and Malkin. You may hate the Pens but to call Staal overrated shows a true lack of hockey knowledge.

I agree with DW on this one. Have been watching a bunch of Penguins-games this season, and Staal has been absolutely brilliant. Overrated? Underrated I'd say. He´s always performing consistently and taking a lot of reponsibility. Easily the best third-liner in the league.

His nomination for a Selke was a joke. Zetterberg, Richards, Hossa, Bergeron ect, were more deserving.

And since when are you the arbiter of 'hockey knowledge'?

No, of course not! Why would I ever watch the Penguins? It is not like they are on every other national game. Staal is an exciting/dangerous PK and generates breakaways but I don't notice him much ES.
Funny how the only people who agreed with the Staal nomination over on the HockeysFuture boards were Penguin fans http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=766473.

The original point is that Staal was equated to Markov, which I think think is wrong. Did the two of you really need to make ad-hominem arguments here?

If Jordan Staal is overrated then so is Andrei Maekov.

And guess what, Markov is not overrated. He is rather underrated, as is Staal.

FYI

Bergeron +6, Richards -2, Zetterberg +12, Hossa +24, J. Staal +19

so besides turn-over machine Hossa, Staal has a better +\- then everybody else you mentioned. But wait plus/minus is not everything, what about Staals 50+ points getting 3rd line minutes. Or maybe that cup ring he's got over Bergeron, Richards, and Hossa. Or maybe it's his 358 consecutive games he's played. No you're right he is overrated and doesn't deserve the nomination.

Find me a player with better plus/minus, more points, in the same amount of average ice-time. Oh wait, I bet you can't becuase there isn't any.

You're wrong.. I won't even bother.

And yeah, what DW said.

FYI, I'm not a Penguins fan. In fact, I really dislike that team.

Im not gonna argue who is overrated or underrated but the way I see it is that the Pens have way more depth and a way better team than Montreal. Montreal really really needs Markov. Therefore Montreal losing Markov is way worse than them losing Staal. IMO. That is what I took from Brahmigula's original message, not that Staal was overrated or bad, just that he comes from a team with Crosbys and Malkins. Montreal doesn't have another Markov, they have Hal Gill and Gorges and O'byrne and Bergeron. Though I do really like how PK Subban has een playing.

I know Brahm wasn't saying that Staal was overrated, but that's what the conversation lead to. I know Markov is a great d-man an losing him is a real hit, but put yourself in Pittsburghs shoes, their best pk man and their SELKE nominee is gone. You don't replace a selke nominee. Yeah they have Crosby and Malkin, but neither are selke nominees, never have been and never will be. Montreal still played pretty decent, not good or great, but decent without Markov for 35 games earlier in the season. Pitts has never been without Staal in the line-up. Game 2 in just under 2 hours from now, will be the first time the Penguins have played a game without Staal in the line-up in roughly 4 seasons including playoffs. I guarantee losing him makes a big difference, because Maxime Talbot is nowhere near as good as Jordan Staal.

Pittsburghs first game without Staal, and they loose 3-1 giving up a PP goal.

series tied 1-1

Hah, rub it in. Nice one by the habs. I don't like them much, but they're better than the Pens at least. GO HABS. That felt weird.

Did you read the thread I posted? It reveals that the Staal selection, among unbiased fans (fans that watch a lot of hockey), was not a popular pick. And yet you made this personal, so you did 'bother'.
