I type like that because I spend a lot of my time in Asia and reading emails in broken English and it gets to be a habit after awhile to respond with out using pronouns and things like that. Chinese don't use them, so when they write in English it comes out that way. People talk to me in English that way too and being that I have done this for the last 6.5 years it just gets to be a habit.

I talk and write simple so people can understand my point. My boss gives me shit about it too so when I write work mails I usually check them closer because it is such a bad habit.

About this discussion, I'll tell you it's useless and explain why:
I mostly agree with your stance that cultures should be left alone, it is our custom still to have children, and I haven't heard a lot of women morally object due to the pain involved. It's a custom, like it's in many cases. The problem is, it's also American custom to interfere with what is none of their business, so is it European, we've done it for centuries! Having respect for other cultures or also a cultural moral. This is why I see your arguments are largely compelling projeted on Kayla's remarks, but are selfcontradicting as well. Hence, this is useless to argue about, it's all about where you draw the line.

You are right, they are self contradicting because as a human being of course you are against these types of things and I get why Kayla is so fervent over it.......but......as someone who travles the world and is around a lot of different cultures and has to adapt to them I get that people will not change and that it is impossible to project our Western ideals of society on them. In order to succed in business and even other things in countries with vastly different cultures you have to either over look it or accept it and move on. Otherwise you are just slamming your head into a wall and not getting anywhere.

No, the only thing I have a problem with is the fact you seem to support the mutilation of women. If that video was fake, fine, no harm, no foul. But you continuously say that westerners have no right to shove our culture down others' throats, even when I bring up things like female genital mutilation. Can you honestly sit there and say that you think the world at large has no right to try and help the women in those cultures who want to make a change? That's what western-based human and women's rights organizations are doing; working with women who belong to those cultures. Are you really saying that that's wrong?

You obviously don't support the war in Iraq, which I think is admirable; I also opposed it from the beginning. I don't think it was at all necessary for us to go in to Iraq; no one asked us, there was no clear and present danger to America. I don't understand why you kept bringing that issue up as if I was arguing with you, unless your command of your native tongue has atrophied so much that you can't understand what I'm trying to communicate.

You say you get to travel like it's something I would envy. Are you trying to foist your values on me? Or are you assuming that just because we're technically part of the same culture, we have the same outlook, the same goals in life, the same way of dealing with the world? Even two people raised in the same culture are different, which, incidentally, is why you can't make broad claims based on culture having to do with, say, what styles of government can work in a given country.

As for my little term of endearment, I call everyone honey, even in real life. If I had been trying to be condescending, I'd have let my four years in the south take over and called you "boy."
