i didn't see it but i saw the goals, great goals from Rooney and Bellamy (the 2-2).

6 or 7 minutes of extra time, though, is fucking ridiculous and far more than necessary, according to everyone i've talked to who saw the game.

i'm tired of saying that the clock should stop on fouls, etc., it would dramatically reduce time-wasting by players and retarded extra time decisions by referees.

UEFA's most recent brain fart, the 'goal line referees', already showed hoew retarded it is, disallowing a goal from Shaktar Donetsk (i think) and a penalty for Benfica in the first day of the Europa League. is it too much to ask to just put some fucking chips in the balls?! Platini talks about the emotion of football, i call it fucking unfair if a team scores a goal and the ref doesn't see it, or doesn't get half the extra time they should have got.

Bah bullshit, the ref added time for both the subs and Bellamy's celebration after his equaliser, the ref should've blown his whistle at 95:26, Owen scored 95:28. Seeing as how referees are encouraged to let the attacking team finish the attack, it makes sense.

extra-time for extra-time? bah. anyway i've always said that the clock should stop instead of letting it go and then give extra-time. some say that it would make matches ridiculously long, but they forget that with a stopped clock there is less incentive to waste time in the first place.

and says Sir Alex: “I’ve given up trying to understand how the fourth official and referee work out added time. I’m sure there is method in their madness.”
welcome to the club, Alex.

Rangers drew 0-0 for the third league game in a row yesterday and we're now somehow 4 points behind a pretty average-looking Celtic team already. And we're playing Sevilla on Tuesday. :omfg:

Benfica, on the other hand, just won 5-0, in 6 games we have 21 goals scored and 3 against (a penalty, an own goal and a last minute goal on an 8-1 (!!!) victory).

we bought several players this season, namely Javi Garcia and Saviola from Real Madrid for €7M and €5M respectively and Ramires (who had a great Confederations Cup performance for Brazil) for €7M, and most importantly a coach that said 2 things right on his first day: 1. Benfica was going to play at least twice as well as in the previous season and 2. at Benfica it doesn't matter if it's your first year, aiming at anything less than the title is ridiculous.

for once the guy was actually good for it and the results are what you can see above.

Saviola went from forgotten at Real to star status at Benfica, Aimar went from washed up last year to getting called up for the first time in 2 or 3 years to the Argentina squad, Di Maria is finally living up to his promise, Javi Garcia has Spain's manager watching him and Cardozo is on fire (7 goals in 6 league matches).

if it all goes right, we'll have Cardozo (paraguay), Maxi Pereira (Uruguay) and Ramires and Luisão (Brasil) at the world cup, plus possibly Di Maria, Aimar, Javi Garcia and Nuno Gomes for their respective squads.

i say this at the start of every season, but this time i'm really optimistic. we've been playing great football and scoring lots of goals and the team is extremely motivated. CARREGA BENFICA!1!1!!!!!!ONEONE!!!!

Benfica won yesterday's match 3-1, making it 6 successive wins. over half of our goals are scored from dead-ball situations, including two last night, we're getting really good at them.

number 7, Oscar "Tacuara" Cardozo scored an amazing free kick:

what a great player.

i dislike both top scottish clubs, so i was hoping you guys would tie lol. Rangers has the whole 'terrible fucking football' problem, while Celtic have the whole 'playing away, we couldn't even beat the Cockshut Pensioners' Cultural and Recreational Association' thing.

i might dislike Celtic a bit less because of the 'Lions of Lisbon', since i think it's awesome to win the European Champions' Cup with a 100% national team born and bred at the club.

now go and watch Cardozo's goal, Nacho Novo has nothing on him

Yawn, your argument is like, so 2007.

Celtic managed to perpetuate the myth of playing attractive football last season when they were frankly fucking shocking (not to say we're a lot better) and they certainly haven't improved so far this season.

To be fair to us, we lost 3 freak goals. But still, a shambolic performance. One of the worst results in our history.

Rangers x Unirea was hilarious

it was quite a surprising week, Barcelona losing at Camp Nou versus Rubin Kazan who are doing shit in the Russian League (although from the match summary it looked like Rubin only went anywhere near Barça's goal twice), Inter tying at home against Dinamo Kiev, Arsenal tying vs AZ Alkmaar....

from the match summary, Debrecen vs Fiorentina looked like quite a good match, with fine goals.

and tomorrow: Europa League, with Benfica playing Everton in Lisbon!

... and tonight, Benfica crushed Everton in Lisbon! Benfica 5 x Everton 0, goals from Saviola and Cardozo (2 each) and Luisão. Saviola played a brilliant match, and Di Maria was on fire.

Yeah, Everton had two 13 year olds at full back.

sure that helped to get a 5-0 scoreline, but we would've won anyway.

Moyes shouldn't have played Cahill in the flank and Saha on the bench. but they still had Jô, Yakubu, Bilyaletdinov...

(BUT WE HAD THE MAGNIFICENT FIVE: AIMAR, RAMIRES, DI MARIA, SAVIOLA AND CARDOZO!!! MWAHAHAHA)

EDIT: The Independent mentioned this Everton injury thing, and some guy there commented:

Quote:
Howard, Gosling, Hibbert, Distin, Rodwell, Cahill, Fellaini, Saha, Yakubu, Jo.

That's ten (TEN!) players who would be hoping to play week in, week out, with Howard, Hibbert, Distin, Cahill, Fellaini, Saha, Yakubu and Jo (eight of the above) being first choice players.

so there.

Lazio did pretty good yesterday, so I'm happy about that... Seems like Zarate is coming back.

another demolition, this time we thrashed Nacional da Madeira 6-1 in Lisbon.

Nacional is coached by Manuel Machado, who has a bit of a rivalry with Benfica's manager Jorge Jesus:

JJ rubbing in the (then) 4-1 scoreline. i wish he had 6 fingers, haha.
