When the highlight of a world cup is a goalkeeper fumbling the ball that can not be good news for the football fans.

I hope better games are waiting for us.

Bit harsh, no? Tshabalalala's goal is my personal highlight so far, but we'll see.

Heskey played pretty well, actually, and probaby deserves to start more than Peter Crouch. It's just a shame that a couple of the best chances fell to him instead of..... anybody else.

America is a decent side and England's performance was better than in the first matches at the last two world cups, I'd say. Thought England was the better team overall but sometimes people just fuck up.

didn't Heskey make the assist in Gerrard's goal?

Yep.

By the way, am I the only one who isn't bothered by the horns, and actually quite digs them?

*raises hand*

It's not like football matches anywhere else are completely silent. Bunch of fusspots.

C'mon! the horns are not that bad. Sure, it's a little annoying but it's not like it spoiled the fun of the game (when there's fun which is not the strong point of this worldcup so far).

At any rate it beats making monkey noises at the black players, a la some of our enlightened continental friends.

Great win by the Germans over Australians. Lots of offensive play in that game. I really digged Miroslav Klose goal, especially his reaction.

who said anything about wanting silence? it's just that a continuous, uniform horn sound adds as much to the atmosphere as silence - NOTHING! we want chants, shouts and all that, not the same fucking annoying sound regardless of what's going on in the match!

i understand that that's a part of south african football, but when even players complain about it and considering that the vast majority of fans hate it, can we please drop them?

on actual football: great game by Germany. Australia were easy picking (i looked like they were trying and failing miserably to catch the german strikers in offside traps), but the German machine certainly looked well-oiled. as far as i can remember, the only time Germany disappointed in a competition was Euro 2000. rock-solid, they are.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus Christ, that's the last time I watch an Algeria/Slovenia match. What a boring game, reminds me of why I got out of football in the first place.

Those fucking vuvuzelas or whatever they're called are fucking destroying the atmosphere of football. Not to mention distracting the players. Fucking annoying, man!

Germany was great tonight. They always show great performances while always being the underdogs. They are a solid, disciplined tournament team and I can see them being in the semi finals or thereabouts.

underdogs that people never mention them as the favourites, rather talking about Brazil, Italy, England and this year Spain as such.

England and Germany are two very good examples of underdogs/favourites, England always disappointed since 1966 and are always considered for the title, Germany have won (i think) 3 World Cups and have consistently made it at least to the semi-finals of almost every competition and yet people always seem to forget about them.

That's not what underdog means, surely? Coming third in numbers of world cup wins automatically means =! underdog.

ok, so underdog is not the perfect term. but they never get properly noticed by fans at large until they reach the final and people ask themselves "wtf how did they get there?".

Yeah. Nobody ever counts them among the favorites to win the cup, that's what I mean. They constantly prove the critics wrong.

Everywhere I look it's all Spain, Argentina and Brazil, yet Germany gave us the best match of the tourney so far.
