Radagast was always cool. I miss a bunch of these guys even though I don't post much myself.

Ah. All those names take me back. And whatever happened to Aaron/Dead Machine. He was cool. He last popped up, said he was a muslim now, and disappeared. I still think to this day, he trolled us. Royally.

I don't know, maybe he really did become one. He was already a pretty impressionable dude from what I could tell, and I think he was serious about all of the Communist nonsense, so to me it's not that far fetched. Some people want to be lead.

As for me, well, I'm closer to 30 now than the wild eyed 20 something I was when I first joined this site, and I'm not even remotely close to being the same guy. My views on music have changed drastically, I'm far more open-minded now, listen to a wild variety of music that's not shitty Rap or Country, and I find most people's opinions on music well, pretty goddamn trite. I see far too many people putting up "walls" around their musical tastes and outlooks, and people put far too much emphasis on reviews and popular opinion. I also don't see the point of comparing albums that come out today to albums that came out 20 or more years ago. things change, people change, bands change but it seems like the "fans" never do change. They just want more of the same old shit spoonfed to them on a nifty little platter so they can hop on the next nostalgia trip. I'm all about the now and tomorrow these days, the past is the past, we should all stop endlessly naval-gazing at it and move forward. I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy the Classics, but really, why do you honestly expect Iron Maiden for instance to put out something today that sounds anything at all like Powerslave? That would mean they haven't grown as people, and that's a horrible fate to wish upon someone.

I guess what I'm getting at is I've grown up, and while I do still read the reviews here and appreciate all of the hard work the guys put into this site, I've come to find that arguing about music on the internet is just as silly as it is in real life. And I'm sorry, but alot of people's(unfortunately some on this very forum) opinions on music are downright juvenile and fucking stupid. It just makes my brain hurt. Like what you like and fuck everybody else, this isn't a competition and it's not a popularity contest, it's fucking Metal.

Thanks for that post, EI, you were always one of the more clear sighted among us. We do waste a tremendous amount of time on trifling arguments and how we present ourselves and our tastes.

When I rejoined the site this spring I swore I was just coming to look for music and and get others into what I liked. I have done some of that, but I've been increasingly behaving like how I was in 2005 again, and I'm too old to be acting that way now.

Your wake-up call is much appreciated.

I usually relate formites to their avatar. So if I haven't seen a certain picture in a while, I know they're gone.

But besides a few of us, most people change their avatar constantly.

I don't think that is what he means. I think what he means is attacking each other's taste in music is a waste of time. And it is.

I thought that negativity on music forums was a waste of time but soon afterwards I realized I really like making fun of black metal.

I agree with EI in principle but sometimes people have strong opinions on music which will cause arguments. I don't see anything wrong or stupid about that, really. If something means a lot to you, and I guess music must mean a lot to most people here, you will probably have arguments about it.

Hell, I once sent a friend of mine storming home in tears of frustrated rage from the pub because I was a bit too forceful in explaining to him why the bands I like are better than the Kaiser Chiefs. Another time, I basically caused an irreconcilable rift in our social group which still isn't healed four years later when I respnded perhaps a little bluntly to a friend's girlfriend's remark that "oh you don't like all that screamy crap, do you?". If that makees me immature, so be it......... :D

If that caused an "irreconcilable rift" then there is something seriously wrong with your social group.
