Who are the minorities in Toronto?

Yes, it seems that way.
Again, though, what has changed? Things weren't always this way.
Not a rhetorical question, BTEW, I honestly am curious as to how we as a society have lost our way.
I am a parent and the future society that seems to waiting for my children doesn't look very bright.

I think part of the problem is smart phones, facebook, twitter, and internet communication in general, even including this place. Not saying those things are bad, because they aren't for the majority of us, but for people already on that mental path towards true misanthropy (not the kind we constantly joke about here), the alienating walls of communication modern society has built probably quickens the descent of these people into madness.

I agree. It falls into the isolation from humanity concept. Humans are becoming more and more desensitized to other people, a large part of it is the advances in technology and it's effect of society.

Here is a humble analysis of what I think is happening based on my limited knowledge of current world events:

It's simple I believe in some regards and in other regards can become so complex that dissecting it to pieces would take the greatest minds at stake. I believe the majority of the people living in the world today, taking into consideration the countries that are talked about in the news and in the general public seem to be harmoniously existing. However, what triggers this dissonance is the lack control of emotion which builds to the point of basically no return. The minority of people find salvation in the most perverse way and that is to kill innocent people around them and then decide to take their own life.

It seems no matter how much government-control there is among people and no matter how much the majority of people attempt to respect the law and keep in tact the "social contract," the minority cause an effect of shock and despair by acting on morbid thoughts which they see as the solution. From biological point of view... life in its core is diverse by nature; so diverse that the human mind perceives it as chaos. So from the thoughts of the innocent exist to thoughts of the evil and the perverse and that's the nature of it.

Now taking that into consideration what remains is actions of people that differ drastically from each due the nature of diversity. History has shown us acts of severe inhumanity through the history of time. However, without contraries is no notion of progression. Without evil there will be no good and the opposite. It's just that there are so many good-natured people on this planet that whenever random things like this happen it becomes a crime against humanity which in actual facts it is. I don't think history has a direction or a purpose it merely evolves infinitely.

Although in context of course it does indeed have purpose. However, us as citizens of the earth are merely at the call of the government and there is only a minority of powerful people running this planet. So only there so much in our control and so much more is the hands of politicians that God knows belong to what secret society and what their intentions and purposes are.

The american people are not happy by a long shot, with the way you are systematically oppressed by your leaders by taking all the money from the middle class and the poor to the wealthy 1% and all their banking buddies who can commit almost any crime and get away with it. The poor are getting poorer and the middle class are struggling more and more, all the while the fat cats are laughing all the way to the bank and the fact that so many don't have health insurance are making people terrified of getting sick because that will mean financial ruin. Those are just a handful of things i can think of right now, the system is so fucking broken it's downright laughable. Not saying that Norway is perfect but it's people is much happier because our government is (mostly) very good when it comes to the treatment of it's people, there is a lot more security if things go wrong and people actually have options for help, not so much in America...make it or die is the mentality there ( i think, i could be wrong) so i think a lot of people are really unhappy and snapping left and right. This kinds of shootings are unheard of here in Norway really and the only anomaly we've had in at least 60 years was last years tragic massacre. We have very few murders here, maybe only 15-20 or so a year, so it's a really safe place to live. I can only pray that the american people stands up and does something about it's corrupt and tyrannical leaders, hey maybe you guys need a new revolution?

I agree that a big part of it is the pressure put upon people just trying to survive, i.e., the middle class, but when I look around me, I see way too many people who waste too much time and money in pursuing shiny baubles and status defining products, instead of focusing in on whats actually important in life.

Mom working a high profile job, not because they need the money (Hubby has a high paying job too), but so they can go to the Caribbean in the spring and Hawaii in the fall, afford the latest greatest Beamer, etc... meanwhile, their kids are in day care, getting picked up late, or with nannys, and the parents don't spend any time at all with them... "not now, sweetie, Mommy's too busy" ... I see it all the time.
I know so many people that live up to their eyeballs in debt just so they can "keep up with the Joneses". They are really nothing but slaves to the bank. And when the wolves start howling outside their door, panic and despair is apt to set in.

The family breaking down is also having a direct impaqct on society at large.

Another observation I have made is that Madison Avenue and the media dictate what our culture is. For fun and profit, but mostly profit, of course. The result is a more shallow and crass population whose only purpose in life is to consume and follow whatever trend is currently en vogue.

Not every minority who moved there has taken part of it, but go down to Jane and Finch and tell me that problem didn't come with those people.

I couldn't have seen how there was any humour to be taken out of the situation, but somehow the onion managed to do it without being offensive in any way. Impressive.

I found it to be less an attempt at humor than an expression of despair.

I didn't laugh. I fell like it was dead serious. There is no humor when this is just so overwhelming. The Onion is heartbreaking when it doesn't make you laugh.

Charlie Chaplin's humor wasn't so much to make people laugh but was done out of despair for humanity.

I agree with V that it was an expression of despair. And like trapt, I didn't laugh either, but I think there was still an element of the onion's unique humouristic approach. You won't see any other publications doing an article like this, is what I mean.
