Weightlifting ist krieg. It's always an ego boost to go to the gym and set the weights higher than the person who used the machine before you.

It's even more of an ego boost when the guy that did that lower weight is actually still there watching you and thinking "This Guy Ist Krieg"

Yeah a lot of it is indeed psychological but here in the states obesity has become an epidemic that needs to be stopped if only people realize that what they eating(those who are overweight)are actually killing them and making them look ugly and unattractive.

It's getting worse up here too. I mean, being one of the dwindling number of people in good shape is nice for the ego and all.. but I'd rather have less 'unfit' chicks to look at. Judging by some of the porn you see nowadays.. our beauty standard is starting to look like those paintings from the middle ages!!

Oh man then you would hate this town where I live. The population of fat chicks here is extremly high. The fat women here wear belly shirts and daisy dukes to the point where I want to vomit it's so damn bad.

There are a fair share of good looking women here but a majority are either married or involved with someone that only leaves the fat chicks and I don't care what people say that fat chicks need loving too that's too much lovin for me to handle

Eat clean dude.Eat quality protein, good fats and complex carbs and spread them in 6 meals this keeps your blood sugar levels in check and you are in fat burning mode.

Plus get some much needed exercise either by weighlifting, cardio or both.

See, that first bit means nothing to me. That's the problem. As for working out, I lift and box so I get enough exercise, I just eat too much at once, and it's not quality food, very unhealthy.

Basic principle: foods that spike your glucose level (baiscally refined carbs such as anything with white flour or sugar..) will cause your body to release insulin to get that blood sugar level down. How does it do that? By turning it into fat.

If you eat complex carbs (whole grain products, nuts, etc) it takes longer for your body to turn it into glucose, and your levels don't spike. So even though that licorice might have 0 grams of fat, it be making you fat.

Well Eyesore if you want to lose weight you have to make sacrifices.

I was a sponge cake.Ate unhealthy and looked like shit, had no energy, was tired a lot but then I finally got tired of looking into the mirror at a sponge cake, ate clean, lifted weights, did cardio and now I look like those fitness models you see on mags like Mens Health and Mens Fitness.

I only eat junk on my cheat days which is once a week and even then I'm very cautious of what I eat.And I also take in simple sugars post workout.

Exactly and by eating complex carbs you have much longer increase of energy unlike eating simple carbs which causes you to crash quickly and makes you tired and worn out.

Of course overconsuption of anything will make you fat which is why moderation is the key.

I just hit 30 and I'm getting fat! I don't know what to fucking do, I have horrible eating habits! I'm a relatively big dude, 6' 0" and 220lbs before gaining weight, now I'm 240lbs. Still not fat, but getting there. It's like my metabolism hit a brick wall.

I need to figure out how to eat right because I eat like shit. I've always been able to do so and not gain an ounce. I'm about to crash, I can tell. Everything I eat and think is healthy...is not. Any good sites/books to learn about nutrition (hahaha)? Anyone know?

The best author for such books is without doubt Michel Montingnac. His main method is "Eat and loose weight", i.e. as he himself says "People get fat not because they eat too much, but because they eat wrong". Now everyone is acting as if it was known for centuries, but this man was one of the first who developed this method. I really recommend his books to everyone.

That's a very good book his theories and diet are very sound and is one of the healthiest because it deals with mediterranean foods which are heart healthy.

I find one flaw and that he says you can eat sugar like chocolate and still lose weight I'm not a fan of sugar eating unless it's either after a workout or on a cheat day but not every day eating that he purposes.

Plus I don't recommend it to those who are addicted to sugar because many people have tried his methods and couldn't quit eating sugar which in turn made it worse. It's not for those who are not self controlled.

But if you are smart and have a strong will power then it's a perfect diet or if you don't want to eat sugar anymore then you can skip that part of the diet plan.

Plus he's one of the first gurus to tell people not to mix fats with carbs and he is 100% right never ever mix fats with carbs otherwise your goals will be shot down.

Or how about how to get past a plateau? I lost all motivation b/c I was on this damn plateau and could not reach my goal. I was pretty big during high school and at my peak after my first year of high school. Now I'm punier than ever. But I go running, so at least I'm active still.

Was it the benchpress where you reached a plateau? I got past mine by strengthening all the muscles involved (triceps, shoulders, chest) with isolated exercises.

I am six foot and weigh 185lbs... Apparently according to BMI this makes me 0.1 BMI points overweight. Bah!

Well, I am a pretty big guy anyway... Recently I have been trying to lose weight and get healthier so now every day I'm on an excercise bike for quite a while, and I hardly ever eat desert food anymore. Or snacks- if I do have one it has to be fruit. I have been feeling much healthier recently.

But I do want to increase my upper body strength quite a lot, but so far I've really not made much progress :?
