A Danish newspaper has pushed a very dangerous button. Denmark can't be held responsible for the actions of a newspaper.

The government controls the media. Just look at the David Kelly case over here, if the BBC had any balls they'd have stood strong.

Saw a great cartoon in a paper here today, a jew, a buddhist, a muslim and a christian are sitting on a cloud, as the christian says to the muslim: "Relax man, we're painted here as well as you are".

I think there is a distinction between jokes about christians and this. Muslims just take stuff like this as an ex-Auswitsch jew would take a tasteless Hitler cartoon or something. I still think they overreact though...

ha ha :D i will

but i have to admit that i think it was a stupid idea to post those cartoons... the muslim's treasure their religion as we treasure our nationality and our western values. I do hope, though, that the Imams, that went down there, get kicked out of our country for telling lies about us.

Truthfully, a similar cartoon with Moses would probably get the same kind of response from los juden. Well, maybe not the flag-burning and rioting...

Well maybe Denmark government hasn't got anything to do with it but they're probably gonna pay for it. So they should apologize before those mad people get madder. The embassies are burning if you guys heard. They might burn the people next.

we are already paying for it :D through boycots of danish food throughout most of the middle east.

it has also been my attitude towards this; why not just apologize and get over with it. But our prime minister have appeared on one of them muslim television stations trying to explain to them that we don't endorse racism and descrimation of muslims etc... but i don't think he apologized the way they want it... of course, he could just pretend to apologize on behalf of Denmark, but that's not possible since we got free speech.

The goverment are in no position to apologize. Jyllandsposten (the newspaper that brought the cartoons) is not an official goverment bulletin. The goverment had nothing to do with the printing of the cartoons and by constitution it can not interfere with the free press.

Some of the maddest of the mad people (perhaps the most likely ones to resort to violence) even wants our queen to apologize and the director of the newspaper to be punished. These demands are completely absurd and can not with any stretch of imagination be met.

By the way: Exports to the middle east amounts to roughly 1% of our exports, so I think we'll live..

You got my post all wrong. The only reason I mentioned the exports was in response to this:

But threats does not change the fact that the goverment has no influence on the press, the queen can't apologize for something a newspaper has published and the authorities will not punish the director of the newspaper.

Ok. I'm sorry about that, I may have got it wrong. But if you guys don't do something about this like apologize these crazy fucks won't calm down. And the most effective apology can only be of the president or the queen. I really wouln't want to see bombs going off all over Denmark, and you know they can do it and innocent people can die.

see, the problem is us Europeans do value the freedom of speech. plus our countries aren't ruled by religions anymore...

that's what makes it unacceptable to appologize...

I know it sounds crazy but a BMer like you are should understand how important it is to fight for your principles....
