Dude, if you can get past a bit of the cheese of the 80's rock scene you'll find yourself drowning in awesome music. I find greater enjoyment listening to a wide variety of styles. Now, if today I listen to Ani Difranco, Dave Matthews Band and Rusted Root all day, then tomorrow I throw in some Dark Tranquillity, Before The Dawn and Darkane it's just all that much better! There's no connection, it doesn't get old. It's like being a mormon and having 20 wives. A new lay every night of the week. Fresh.

Or something like that. Haha. Good to see some of you spreading your wings.

Mostly the fact that while thrash or death metal bands might be heavy or whatnot, a lot of metalcore bands actually sound pissed off. I also find their songwriting a lot more entertaining than most other genres of metal. They also have a tendency to experiment with a lot of post-rocky and/or technical type stuff that I like.

I've always been vehemently anti-discrimination, and I know from experience (ignore the after-school-special qualities of this next statement, it's true) how much words can hurt. I have a lot of lesbian friends, and I'm employed by Mount Holyoke's gay and lesbian cultural house; it's just one of the smaller issues I take up.

This site and you guys have seriously helped me with this but being open minded doesn't happen by advice, you have to figure things out yourself. That's what happened to me this year and seriously, now I love black metal even more, but I also like other things too. This is awesome.
