Not going to restart an argument, but the film is going to be dreadful.

Bah, forgive me. Post-birthday blues getting in the way, I clearly didn't get drunk enough.

I'm very skeptical towards the film as well- Its hard in the first place too make Watchmen into a movie, but I think that Zack Snyder (300 guy) was a pretty bad choice for a director. On the other hand, besides the stupid slow motion shit that Snyder seems to love for some reason, I actually did really like the trailer- the costumes and backgrounds at least seem well done, which is a start.

Re-reading the Dark Tower books, now on The Waste Lands.

Probably the best books ever.

Probably yes!

Now reading The lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, just started but it seems promising

Read Watchmen for the first time today. Definitely needs several more views to take it in.

EDIT: Views? I meant "reads". Readings, if you're being pedantic.

I've watched scenes of the movie and it was pretty fucking disgusting. I'm curious about his writing style though; it is subject matter which today would be obscene yet his writing style is two hundred years old. I've just always wondered how it would compare to Palahniuk's or Ellis'.

I love the Gentleman Bastard books- so very fun.

And countering that, that trilogy is probably one of the most depressing things I've ever read. Still very good, though I had some problems with the final book, The Escapement.

Fredric Jameson - Postmodernism, and the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism.

Marxist aesthetic/literary/consumerism criticism FTW!

Just finished James Joll- Gramsci

Short (about 100 pages) discussion of Gramsci's philosophy and achievements.

Reading several books simultaneously at the moment... a chapter each in strict rotation.

Wheel of Time Book 10: Crossroads of Twilight (rescue your damn wife already, Perrin... After 350 pages RJ is still recapping what other characters were doing when Book 9 finished)
Age of Extremes: 1914-1991 by Eric Hobsbawm. Good demonstration of how a devoted Marxist can write a history book without sounding like he is just reeling off SWP dogma, good book indeed.
The Russian Revolution by Sheila Fitzpatrick- Just a short overview of how things went down in Russia in the period of about 1917 through to the 1930s.
Wild Swans by Jung Chang- Eyewitness account of several decades of Chinese life in the 20th century.

Do you know of any readable neomarxists? Convoluted writing and few translations have lead me to just read introductions and summaries.
