I'm having some problems with the PS3 too. I can't finish MGS4 because it won't read the disc. I can play for a while, well actually I can play for as long as I want to, but if I enter the menu and go to the item screen and then try to go back into the game, that disc loading thing appears in the top left corner, and it never goes back into the game again. All I can do is reset the game, but when the console starts up it won't read the disc, no matter how many times I try, or even if I switch game. It can read DVDs however, which is kind of fucked.

I've been able to work around this problem earlier in the game, but now I'm at a point in the game where, if I try to progress further, it switches to a cut-scene and the loading thing happens again, and I'm fucked.

Apparently this is a pretty common problem with the 40GB version of the PS3, it's a fucking shame with such a ridiculously expensive console.

Oh, also, when it stops reading discs, I can wait for around 2-3 hours, and suddenly it starts reading discs again. How fucked is that?

I<ve had my 40GB PS3 for a year now and never had that problem weird....

I read somewhere that like 20% of the consoles have that problem.

And that's still better than 25% of 360s overheating. I never had any problems with MGS4 and sure in COD you find the occasional assholes who host and quit the games, but it's not much of a problem. And as far as the connection goes, COD has probably the best online connection I've ever played on. X-box owners need to stop being jealous of the fact that the PS3 is a superior machine, and that MGS4 is PS3 exclusive.

Oh shit, we're not going to start with that crap here are we? If you want to ignite console fanboy wars, that are plenty of sites where you can find endless amounts of that nonsense. You can't convince any sane person that any console is "superior" to the other. There are just as many pros and cons for each.

Wii may be winning with it's sales solely but as for the gaming it suck's. I've had the Wii since it was out and it lacks quality games. I'm not saying there aren't any just saying there are few. This fact has pushed me to purchase a PS3 last year, and it has a great NHL game which the Wii does not have and thats another plus!

Well it is a better machine no doubt about that, but on the matter of games it's pretty much the same with the exception of some exclusives.

How am I jealous about the PS3 when I have a PS3? haha ;). The problem with these 'system wars' is that most people don't know shit about what they're talking about. Regarding the statistics, I read them somewhere on the PS3 forums. Anyway, I have a Wii, a PS3 and a 360, and even though I don't really play any of them any more I never saw any advantages in any of them, except for the 360's on-line function being superior. We can argue all day about statistics, but we're all going to end up saying "hey, it hasn't happened to me, so you must be full of it." This is the classic fan boy argument, I could easily throw that shit around, but the fact is, I don't give a shit about what you think is the "best" console. I just hope I'll get to finish Metal Gear 4 some day.

All over the web when it comes to a console's failure rate the PS3 and Wii are estimated at 3% and 16% for the Xbox360 (many sources report the exact same numbers) so I don't see how those users on the PS3 forums come up with 20% failure rates...... makes no sense whatsoever. Anyhow really sucks that you have a drive problem, you should get that fixed by Sony before your warranty expires.

Fortunately the Xbox 360 failure rate isn't as bad as it was before. Personally I don't know a single person that has had their 360 overheat, or have any problems at all, and all of them bought their consoles in the last year, so I don't think it's as big of a problem as it used to be.

The PS3 statistic I read about could easily be bullshit, it's hard to tell if someone is being a fan boy especially on a console forum.

Oh right, now gaming: Caesar III. Somehow Caesar IV lags the shit out of my computer. My computer matches the requirements for it, but the game, for some reason, responds like half a second late. Must be my shitty Celeron processor.

PS3 may have more technically advanced hardware, but it really doesn't matter at this point since developers aren't doing any more with it. The graphics are the same as 360, and each has advantages over the other. By the time PS3 devs start really unharnessing its hardware, we may very well be into the next generation of consoles.

Any argument that one is vastly superior to the other is drenched in fanboy bias as you probably would agree. Each system is worth having in my opinion.

I mostly agree with you but things like integrated wi-fi, blu-ray drive, integrated rechargeable batteries in controllers, easily changeable hard drive, web browser, bluetooth fonctionality, free internet network put the PS3 above just for fonctionality features ( not talking graphics or machine technical specs). As a whole it's a more interesting package than what the other console offers IMO.

But I understand not everyone looks for the same features so it's all extremely debatable especially since like you mentionned, the gaming experience is generally the same.

There are Caesar games? Whaaaaaaat? Roman nerd alert! Are they strategy games? Or do you actually play as Caesar while he kills Gauls and senators? Because that would be pretty ballsy.

Anyway, still playing Force Unleashed (I'm going through it slowly) and despite its problems, it is such a blast and so much fun. I don't want to get into retarded console wars, but if you do have the Wii and another system, I would get the wii version, as I also played it on a friend's X Box and it is just so much more fun with motion controls, despite the significantly inferior graphics.

It's mostly a strategy sim game along the lines of Sim City but through roman eyes at the time of Caesar. Well thats what I remember from playing Caesar II which has been a hell of a long time ago.

If you looking for a war strategy game with building mechanics Rome Total War is what you're looking for.

Oh ya, I love Rome Total War. But I was kind of sadly hoping for an action adventure game where you got to kill senators as Caesar. Oh well.

Haha. The Caesar games focus mainly on city building, they're very addictive because they're so well made and balanced. The only thing they kind of lack is combat strategy, which isn't really a big deal.

Sorry about starting the whole console wars thing, my bad, probably just my pissed off reaction to finding out that Red Alert 3 is on hold for PS3 and it will probably be scrapped. Ideally, I'd get it on PC, but my PC blows.

Anyone had problems with this Steam thing for Half Life 2's Orange Box? Is it as awful as it sounds?

Well, it used to be a steaming pile of shit, lulz. I remember having to wait 2 days back when HL2 was released just to be able to install it, but it's actually a pretty good platform for games nowadays, and I haven't had any problems with it since.

Can't say as much on other forums though...
