Completely agreed. "ITS TRAGIC 0R SOMETHING SO IT MUST BE DEEP! LETS GIVE IT AWARDS!" Meanwhile, Children of Men gets completely ignored (haven't seen Pan's Labrynth yet, but from what I understand, its apparently completely amazing).

If you're looking for excitment, go in this order:
- Apocalypto
- Blood Diamond
- Bobby
- Babel

But Blood Diamond is a much better film than Apocalypto.

Falling Angels - an indie Canadian film about a dysfunctional family that still manages to get together. One thing I love about indie films is that you don't recognize any of the actors so it feels a bit more real. This movie had 2 flaws though - the characters didn't really have any redeeming qualityies and weren't dysfunctional in a 'cute' way like in Little Miss Sunshine, so they didn't really garner any sympathy (more of a "damn that sucks that people probably go through stuff really similar to this"), and them all being happy together at the end kind of comes out of nowhere with no allusion to them being able to get along at all for the rest of the movie. It's about a 6 or 7/10 though

I'd take Apocalypto over 1000 blood diamonds.

I've heard Pan's Labyrinth is really good but not as much fantasy as you'd expect from the ads. Which is odd because from the adds it seemed like they were marketting as something like Mirrormask to the billionth degree.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Pretty much the most unsettling movie I've ever seen. :dio:

The Departed - Great movie. I was surprised at how Leonardo Dicaprio brutalized everyone else, even Jack Nicholson, actingwise.

*spoiler*also that Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels style ending pretty much came out of nowhere

It's really good and stuff.

Yes, to whoever congratulated me. Alcohol is key.

Haven't seen the movie, but the book is really great...I actually read it after hearing how obsessed Mike Portnoy is with it :P. Hard to believe it came out BEFORE we landed on the moon.

Pretty much true, but the non fantasy story sections are amazing as well. It all blends together so well. I was initially a little disappointed by the lack of tons of fantastical stuff which is why I took a .5 out of my score. Really though it doesnt matter, there is still a good amount and its all amazing.. Especially the freaky Silent Hill-esque part.

Hah, yeah I've seen it in bits and peices before, but never could watch it 'cuz I thought it was pretty boring. I saw it again now and I loved it. It's not a fast paced action thriller, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Usually I like movies better if they're not, but that's just me. :dio:

I've wanted to read the book for awhile. I'll get around to it someday. :dio:

Ray - I loved it, but I think you have to be a fan to really appreciate the film.

Loved it. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, but it was still a great movie. 9/10.

I shall watch that tonight. I bought it for £3 when I was shopping in 'Music Zone' over Christmas, but haven't even unwrapped it yet! I guess with Walk the Line (good, but long-winded) and Dreamgirls (I shall castrate myself before I watch that), there's too many of these biops regarding stars from the sixties. Just a matter of time before tax evading James Brown gets his turn.
