What's with the recent focus on Britishness? There's an unpleasant air of nationalism around it. Everyone knows that having a Union Jack in your garden makes you look like, at best, a jingoistic twit, and at worst, a full-blown racist.

Anyone elase hear this bullshit about a Lord trying tp push an allegiance to queen and country speech into school graduation? I'd like to have seen them try and make me do that.

I'd go to www.mailwatch.co.uk. Shouldn't take long to find something to use. Also look through the forums.

It's a bit late now, being 21.35, but you should try today's, which I saw in Morrisons. Had a huge front page banner for an Alison Pearson all about how she personally blames that dead girl in India's mum for what happened to her.

Mailwatch was very useful, thanks. Though I found more stuff from the Daily Express than the mail, so I'm expanding it into right-wing tabloids in general.

Metalcrypt lost the remaining credibility i had for them. What a site full of shameful reviews.

Yeah, that is the new dude. He sucks. He is a power metal fanatic, and should not be busy reviewing Death Metal. Lars Christensen wrote a better one.

Picture the most generic Technical Death Metal you can think of. Chuggy, hollow, angular riffs that only stop for the odd flourish of 70s-style psychedelic melody and/or a guitar solo that goes on forever, odd time signatures, monotonous roars from behind the mic, and lame "insightful" lyrics that will inevitably get praised for being "more than the usual gore-fest lyrics!" by people who don't know what they're talking about.

It was a pretty boring album, just not for the reasons he's citing.

Larry Griffin (Empyreal on the Metal Archives) is a very good reviewer. He's pretty much Lord Requiem but with better reviews and nothing of Requiem's attention-whoring. Don't know why on earth he's reviewing brutal DM, though.

Speaking of Requiem, he has left the Metal Crypt and his reviews are removed. I really don't know why people harbor such rage for that site. Sure they thrashed a BG album (with a really awful review I might add) but this site has positive reviews for Korn and Evanescence! Not to mention that Metal Crypt usually manages to dig up much more underground stuff that Metalreviews.

I don't mind some of the reviews there. Requiem was an arrogant prick with completely irrational negative reviews. I'm glad he's no longer stinking up Metal Archives either.

Hmm, probably some problems with Michel? Judging by some of those guys reviews and by their message board, they seem pretty closeminded and stubborn, so conflicts may be the cause. In my younger days that site helped develop my hatred towrads numetal.

Personally I like Requiem's reviews quite a lot. I like Sargon's too, when theyr'e not to personal and subjective.

They are pretty close-minded and stubborn, there's no doubt about that, but when Sargon (as ridiculously short as some of his reviews are) or Larry Griffin gives a high score to some band that no one has ever heard of before, they are pretty much always worth checking out. I would never join their forum, though, that's for sure.

EDIT: speaking of negative reviews, this site is pretty much the only metal webzine I've seen where the reviewers can write negative reviews to save their own lives. Those at the Crypt and especially the Archives (*shudders*) are usually completely over-emotional (with no music description to speak of) and filled with laughable exaggerations.

haha yeah, Sargon's review of Dream Theater - Metropolis Part II, always cracks me up. Three fucking words. They got me into alot probably more that this site did. But that is probably because I've been there way longer than I've been here.

Speaking of Manowar... I heard of the best drinking game last night. Play a Manowar song, and drink a shot everytime they sing steel, warrior or metal.
